Environmental Awareness: A Crucial Movement

by | 11-10-2014 05:48 recommendations 0

Hello Friends,

Environmental awareness is sometimes a topic that is not given as much importance as on ground eco events. However, I believe that both awareness as well as on ground efforts should be of equal importance in any non-profit cause. Environmentalism is a cause that effects all humans. However, not everyone realizes the importance of being eco-friendly. Furthermore, the environmental awareness goes beyond the cause of informing people of the importance of being eco-friendliness, rather its role extends to prompting people to act upon the environmental issues we face.

This, however, can be challenging. Often, prompting action is difficult. Often telling someone about a problem is not enough to convince them and encourage them to take action. Over my past 3 terms I have learned this through the many eco events I have conducted – for both Tunza and local groups.

However, some of my more recent efforts have been very successful. It has allowed me to learn something about environmental awareness and how we can prompt others to care about the environment. This is what I would like to share with you over the next set of articles. Firstly, I will discuss the importance of environmental awareness and why we should help spread and inspire others to take action, and then I will go into strategies I have noticed have worked in order to accomplish this.

In this article I will introduce this set by explaining the importance of spreading awareness about the environmental issues. The earth is our home planet. Life as we know it depends upon the fragile balance of our weather and climate that we call the environment – our environment. Thus, all the citizens of this planet depend upon the environment, and thus it is a role of us all to help resolve issues related to the environment. For any cause on a global scale, the only way to fix the issue is a global effort. To truly resolve the environmental issues that we face today, what we really need is a true and global effort. Small and localized efforts to contribute to resolving the issue, however it would be much more realistic and efficient if the effort was world-wide, with as many people as possible involved.

How is this possible? Well, the answer is environmental awareness activities. By encouraging and inspiring other people to get involved with the environmental issues and help resolve them, we can work towards this dream. By establishing a base of people who care about the environment we not only work towards solving our current issues, but also move towards creating a proactive society that will create a long term environmental sustainability.

How can we, the youth, accomplish this? Well, that will be the topic of the next experience. How can we motivate people to care, how can we convey the importance of being eco-friendly in a meaningful manner? The answers are shockingly simple and we can easily implement campaigns and events to accomplish this as Tunza members. Tunza as a platform is something that is truly remarkable, because as we can see it is a wonderful effort on uniting youth from around the world to create a global movement to create environmental awareness and encourage action. This effort was the spark that inspired me, now it is my turn to pass on this spark.

Kindest Regards,

Nitish

Yes you all are very correct.
@RohanKapur: This initiative seems very interesting and its reach seems very impressive. This is exactly the type of awareness that can be created through online means. That brings me to one of the topics I will discuss in the next article which is the web world as an effective tool for awareness!
@SabinSapkota: You are indeed very correct that we must lead by example and that is the main importance of appealing and directing our awareness efforts to this generation youth: cultivating eco-friendly practices from a young age will create a society of environmentally conscious citizens!

Awaring the people is one of the most important way to improve the environmental condition. it helps the people to realize the importance of environment conservation and remind them of their role. It is really important for the juniors one as in order to cultivate good habits in them from small age, so that they can carry their habit for a long way.

But telling only is not enough. Leading by example increases the gravity of our words and awareness program and it forces other people to follow our steps. Thank you Nitish for sharing about this.

Being Eco-friendly gives me a sense of satisfaction & responsibility.
I agree that telling something verbally is nor effective enough but if your performance is taken as a benchmark & others try to exceed by being more eco-friendly, I see this as a win-win situation for the cause of sustainability.
Environmental awareness activities that are effective in one region are imitated in other regions immediately. An apt example is the Avaaz.org is one of the world's largest and most effective online campaigning community for change. It mobilized 675K persons together world wide.
Thanks for an interesting report, Nitish.
