Recycle and Reuse:There is nothing like waste.

What do you do to the old clothes that cant be used anymore? In our places old clothes are usually burnt or dumped  and only few  are reused as rag rug and for cleaning(floor, vehicles, utencils etc).Burning and dumping both have adverse effect to the environment.Depending upon the type of clothes most of them are not biodegradable and very harmful to the environment, for example nylon and polyster.( http://www.greenchoices.org/green-living/clothes/environmental-impacts)

Last week while I was on the way to my village I came to know about recent establishment of a small cottage industry which recycles old clothes.I was glad to know about it and hence went there on 9th October. They have been using old clothes to make mattress.According to them they recycle about 50 kg to 100 kg clothes everyday. One mattress can be made from about 5 kg or more material as per the requirement .For recycling clothes are first cut into small pieces and then they are converted into cotton like form as they are passed through  the machine.Later the cotton like mass are used to form mattress. The people around were very happy to exchange their old clothes with new mattress though they have to pay some money because mattress made up of pure cotton or fibers are more expensive.

This recycling process has not only fulfilled peoples need at less cost but it has helped the environment from being deteriorated by the otherwise wasted old, ripped, unwearable clothes.Nothing is valueless and maybe it's one side is harmful but we've got to explore for the other useful side and make use of everything that?s on the planet for the good of the planet.

Thanks for sharing with us your interesting experience. Making mattresses from used clothes is a great way of upcycling. Everything has a reuseable value and can be recyled or reused .

Good report Alina...reuse is the most preferred step before other two famous "R"s...It is a very old tradition of reusing old clothes to make blankets etc in India also, but these days, due to many reasons, this is also becoming very limited...

Recycling 50-100 kg old cloth in a day, that's awesome. It is great to know that some of the small cottage industries are recycling the old clothes and making something out of it.
Not only it has reduced pollution induced from burning, but also made some people financially stable. Thank you Alina for sharing this with amazing picture. From now onwards I will be searching for the cloth recycling industries in my society too.

Thannk you for the report with visit picture Alina.
Recyclig clothes is great idea. Also we can donate some wear-able clothes that we have not used much (or we have kept safely in our drawers).

    Well reported Alina.
Nothing is a waste unless it is wasted. Recycling old clothes is a beautiful example of sustainability.
Burning old clothes, I agree, is a disaster for the environment.
