EARTH DAY 2012 – TREE PLANTING & GREEN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

by | 27-04-2012 02:41 recommendations 0

Desertification is a major threat to human existence and one of the core issues being addressed by UNCSD . It is also a key indicator of water availability and soil degradation which in turn affects the food chain and green sustenance .

A large percentage of UAE?s land area is a desert and anti-desertification drives are of greatest relevance here.  Thus , on Earth Day2012 , tree planting is a ?key act of green? for me . I have planted trees on Earth Day for the last 3 years  - in 2010 , 2011 and now 2012.

I live in a green community and was an active participant and leader for the Earth Day Tree Planting activity . Since I am the Regional Ambassador for TUNZA ECOGENERATION , I was chosen to lead the tree planting in my green community.

Spreading awareness about conservation and recycling was the second part of action plan on Earth Day2012 . I am one of the pioneering members of Emirates Environmental Group?s CARTOONA CLUB. Key responsibilities for our Earth Day initiative included :

1.     Distribution of flyers urging people to recycle – the slogan was ?Recycle to give back to Earth?.   I visited numerous beauty parlors, hotels and cafes and put up these posters . These outlets are collecting the cans and depositing them for recycling.

2.     Presentation to my classmates in school – over the last 2 weeks leading up to Earth Day , I gave several presentations to different classes and urged my peers to recycle . The response has , so far , been outstanding and a great motivation .
