Responsible usage of Recycled Materials in UAE

by Rohan Kapur | 12-11-2014 21:03 recommendations 0

Imagine 264 kilometers of Rail Track built using recycled construction material & making over 750 meter long jogging track by recycling car tyres. This is incredible but true.

Stage one of Etihad Rail used recycled building & demolition debris material to make track sub-ballast. This has replaced crushed rock aggregate or cement-stabilized material. Folks, if you assume that they have compromised with the quality then this is not true at all. The recycled material rather exceeds the strict quality control requirements set by Abu Dhabi Municipality.

A plant in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi recycles the building & demolition debris material. The facility processes 98 per cent of inflowing raw construction and demolition waste (by weight) into high-quality recycled aggregates, at a rate of up to 600 tonnes per hour.

The same is true for jogging track. This is in Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah. The 750 metre track is surrounded by palm trees, flower beds and wonderful landscapes, making it the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors and get fit. The track has been made out of 6,000 recycled tyres, as part of a commitment to green development, and is spread across the most picturesque areas of the park. Bee?ah, since 2010, has recycled about six million old tyres in their recycling plant in Sharjah.

All these are practical live examples of the commitment UAE boasts of towards caring of the environment & taking care of the carbon footprint.
