Making IAAS Paklihawa campus a Plastic Free Zone |
---|
Plastics are one of the major sources of polluting the environment and making the nature more unpleasant. As it is non-degradable, it remains as the pollutant for long period of time and if burned them it produces the harmful gases such as CO, CO2 and many others which are harmful to the health and also it contribute to the ozone layer depletion. So in order to reduce the effects caused by the plastics and to make the environment healthier it has been declared to make our institute Plastic Free Zone. As per the plan of the Government of Nepal to make all Government institutions Plastic free Zone, the meeting was held on 23 kartik ( 9th Nov. ) at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences(IAAS), Paklihawa campus within the campus chief office between the stakeholders of the campus in the presence of Chief Secretary of Nepal Government Mr. Leela Mani Paudel. As the outcome of the meeting, it has been confined that the use of the plastic should be banned in the institution and it has been made alert to all the students and other staffs within the campus that they will kindly not bring the plastics bags and other related polythenes with them within the campus premises and would help to make the institution Plastic Free Zone. This seems to be one of the better steps taken by the institution to make the environment better from its own level. As already mentioned plastic has many deleterious effects, its use should be reduced at minimum level and as per the notice released regarding it all the students and staffs should follow it and should welcome the decisions made and should cooperate in making the region Plastic Free Zone and create the institution as the sample institution regarding the conservation and promotion of the environment. |

Total banning the plastic. I do not think so I guess. Plastics are efficient to use in the long run. They are stronger than papers. If we use papers, more trees to be cut. If we use plastic and use and dispose it properly, I believe, that would be better :)

Plastic is very convenient but is a killer of the Eco-system. I hope this must be changed to sustainable form only.
All other forms must be banished from this planet.

Plastic is one of the hardest problems solved as it's related to water source directly, Sunil Shrestha. Thank you for sharing!

There is a new and frequent rising pattern of making ' plastic free zones' and the call to spread such initiatives across the globe to maintain a healthy environment .
Thank you for sharing :)

Good article. But I think proper disposal of plastic and effective collection for recycling should be more encouraged rather than placing a total ban on the use of plastic. Plastic also has its good use.

ya the management of the plastic is the main problem in the environment but i think discouraging and banding them to use can make the better solving of the problem....

Thanks for sharing a very good plan by Nepal Govt. Plastics are the major culprit behind environment deterioration as they decompose in more than 100s of years so tackling plastics is like tackling the chunk of environment spoilers. All the best.

Not too long ago, people of different organizations here in Dumaguete City has participated on a race similar to the popular television series Amazing Race. It was held to promote the control of the use of plastics in the city. I'm glad to say that there have been rules imposed also to different establishments as well as the market area to minimize the use of plastics. Not just that rules were created but also that people seem to participate. All the best. :)

I really love the way on howyour government is responsible in taking care the environment. I applaud that program. But my comment is just do you think plastic itself is the problem or the improper disposal and usage of the community? I believe plastic is not harmful, in fact it is efficient in the long run compared to paper bags, the only challenge is what will be next step of the person after using the plastics. I believe it is more on the proper information, education and social community communication. Just a thought :)

Its so easy to reduce plastic waste, but so important and helpful to the environment! Let's reduce reuse and recycle plastic!

Want to see IAAS plastic free area.

We really should reduce the amount of plastic waste! Simple measures like bringing our own water bottles instead of drinking bottled water can help!

The idea is noble & lovely but its long-run effectiveness is a concern as environmental concerns are second to...
Good Luck. :)
