On 29th. April 2012,  In Assam , India, altogether 100 people along with Army  jawans  ( Soldiers ) planted 40,885 s within an hour near the Chirang Reserve Forest  to enter the Guinness World Records. Army Dogra Regiment and 135 Ecological Battalion jawans planted the saplings on the banks of the Saralbhanga river on Sunday from 11 in the morning to 12 noon. The entire rare event was video-graphed in full view of three independent observers.

At 11 AM , a shrill war cry was raised, and jawans promptly lined up in a row as if ahead of a battle. And it was a battle indeed, but one against time. With hoes in their hands, 100 jawans from 135 Eco Task Force (ETF) of the Territorial Army and the 15 Dogra Regiment fought against time to set a new world record by planting 40,885 saplings in an hour at Khalasi area of Chirang Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

Although the initial plan was to plant 50,000 saplings over a 20-hectare area in one hour, the jawans managed to plant 40,885, which was good enough to create a world record. The jawans have broken the earlier record created by Northern Ireland in December 2009 by planting 26,422 saplings in one hour.

"There were three independent observers and one independent time-keeper who minutely observed the exercise. After the plantation, the observers meticulously counted the saplings and rejected those that were not planted properly. Altogether, 40,885 saplings were planted by 100 jawans in one hour creating a world record. We are soon going to send all our reports with evidence to the Guinness Book of World Records for recognition of our feat," said Haltugaon divisional forest officer Ramesh Kumar; the exercise was his brainchild.
