Lake Clean-up with the Fisherfolk

by Bam Azores | 28-05-2012 13:28 recommendations 0

I went out this morning to volunteer for the lake clean-up with the fisherfolk members of the FARMC. That means Fisheries Aquatic Resources Management Council which is composed of the fishermen and other concerned people. This morning we removed so much moss from the water, which a scientist will teach us to convert to compost. The moss was heavy to lift because it was wet. But there were a lot of us so the work went fast. Then the garbage trucks came to pick up the moss. Since my grandmother's farm is nearby, all the moss that was collected was brought to the farm. Next month the scientist will come to put some microorganisms on the moss to make it into fertilizer.

    Thanks! Miss you guys too!

When we did the clean-up, I wanted to go into the lake water. You could just use boots, but the water would be up to my waist. And because the water quality is class C which means it is only for fishing. My dad made me check if I had any open wounds because I might get an infection. Since I had a small wound on my leg, I was not allowed to go in the water. But I helped in moving the moss to the side with my bare hands and just washed my hands well.
