WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY COMMEMORATION EXPERIENCE AT NGONG FOREST
This year, it was a great pleasure for me to be invited as a guest by the Chief Executive Director for the Kenya Organization for Environmental Education (KOEE); an NGO that promotes Eco School Programme in schools at a World Environment Day Commemoration in Ngong Forest.
The main purpose was to commemorate World Environment Day Celebrations. The colourful event was officiated by the Kenyan Minister of State for Public Service Mr. Dalmus Otieno and other representatives from different institutions who supported the event.
Schools were also invited so that they can get awarded with prizes since most of them had participated in different preparation events that had kicked off few months ago. They participated in essay writing competitions, artworks and even dances at different category. Their colourful artworks were paraded in the exhibition sites.
The event attracted school children from different levels who came for the tree planting event. More than 3,000 different trees were planted in the forest by school children. As Eco-Generation Ambassadors, we also planted some trees.
The event also gave me a pleasure to meet my fellow Eco-Generation Rachael Wanjohi who also came to participate. It left a remarkable moment as most of the school students went back home with joy after getting presented with trophies and gift vouchers.
