GREAT 2014, SPECTACULAR 2015

2014 was a great year for us all at TUNZA Eco-Generation.
It was a particularly eye-opening platform for me and,I am sure, many others. I thank God I was able to discover TUNZA Eco-Generation in the outgone year and I will always work hard to repay your faith in me.

Nigeria had a good year environment-wise as the government showed real commitment to the cause of the environment for the first time in a long while.
It started with the cleaning up of and/or some parts of the oil producing Niger Delta region of the country whose land has been rendered useless for agriculture and aquatic lives slowly going extinct all as a result of oil spillage inherent in that area. Now, the government is getting the companies involved to accept responsibility and do the needful in helping clean up such areas.

One of the best moments for the environment ministry in Nigeria in the outgone year was the launching of the Nigerian part of the Great Green Wall project that aims to stop the encroachment of deserts into more land in the concerned states with Nigeria having eleven states, all in the Northern part of the country, as the frontline states for the project.
It has so far been going well.

Then, in all my works on the environment in the outgone year, I observed that poor drainage system and/or lack of drainages are one of the biggest challenges facing the environment in Nigeria.
It's such a big issue that sometimes I got tired of writing about it. But I am glad the concerned government is now paying attention to this very obvious challenge.

The world environment 2014 was the first I truly celebrated. I put in so much effort in making it happen even missing my lectures and in the end, TUNZA Eco-Generation showed great appreciation of my efforts and named me the winner of the June monthly event. It made me happy because my fellow ambassadors did great things for the WED event and that showed the massive passion we have for the environment here.

Then came the WED week in Barbados which was a huge success and the climate change summit in New York which was equally successful.
The world is being more conscious now.

Again, the poaching of elephant tusks in some African countries was also a very big issue in 2014 but the concerned authorities seem to be tackling it the right way.
And then, the deadly Ebola virus disease returned for the second time in history and left a sour mark in some countries affecting both the consumption of some bush meats and their closeness to man.

All in all, 2014 was quite a good year for the environment save for some ugly punctuations but I am hopeful that 2015 will be even spectacular.
Happy new year all!!! Let's get greener.

Glad to know that 2014 was a successful and memorable year for you and Nigeria as well , especially from environment point of view. Great green wall (GGW) project is a very impressive one to address the detrimental social, economic and environmental impacts of land degradation and desertification on communities bordering deserts. All the best for 2015. May you and Nigeria achieve much more this year to make Nigeria one of the safest , healthiest , greenest and cleanest place.

Great to hear that, Unmesh :) Great Green Wall is such an inspiring project.
I do wish its successful completion with all my heart.
And thank you for finding Eco-generation and becoming my good friend, Unmesh!

And I thank to Nigerian ambassadors like Udeh for sharing vivid report about Nigerian environment, especially, about drainage issues. It's really rear opportunity to listen to it regularly by local ambassador. We all are so lucky to have ambassadors :D

Persistence pays its dividends, Udeh. It has been proved correct by the success you achieved in convincing the authorities to take care of Drainage etc.
Keep going mate, all the best for 2015 & years to come.
