?Have you ever given any second thought to the degradable waste generated at house? How often do you manage such wastes? Simply mingle them with other non degradable wastes and send them to landfill? If so then I would like to humbly request you to stop doing right now!!!
But the question may arise like what?s the next alternative? There are many way actually to manage such waste. And Vermicomposting could be one of the best for you. Simply preserve environment, emit less Green House Gases, get organic fertilizer for your kitchen garden and pots and promote organic farming?, she said (She refers to Mrs Kalyani Mishra Tripathi, senior lecturer of Department of Horticulture, Agriculture and Forestry University(AFU) and Vermicompost expert as well). And this is how we began our Vermicompost training to household wife, eneral staff and women of our university and VDCs nearby. Not to mention the overwhelming participation of students in the training. The training was organized by The Eco Minions in collaboration with Everest Vericompost.
What?s actually vermicompost? It?s the heterogenous mixture of the organic matter like decomposing vegetable of food and vermicast. Vermicasting known as worm casting or worm humus is the end product of the breakdown of organic matter by Earthworm. Its excellent nutrient rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner.
Throughout the training, she explained about her experience with vermicomposting, its economic and environmental benefits. She highlighted the various methods through which we can prepare the vermicompost. She said, ?You get money by taking those wastes. Feed earthworm those wastes, prepare vermicompost. Sell both vermicompost and earthworm. Which are eco friendly too.? Aren?t these amazing?
After she finished her training, there was short question answer series. I was happy to see those women and staff showing keen interest in making of vermin compost.
After that, our motivational speaker Dr. Hom Bahadur Basnet (Department head of Microbiology, AFU) congratulated us for conducting such training especially by targeting women, household wife and general staff of university and those residing in nearby villages. Also, Dr. Mohan Sharma (Directora of Continuning Education Center, AFU) talked about the disdavanteges of using chemical fertilizer and encouraged every participant to promote the use of organic manure like Vermicompost.
To put it in nutshell, the program was found to be fruitful and was equally like by all the participants and students. Household wife thanked us for organizing such training for them.We too got to learn a lot from our sir and madam.

Great work done by you and your team! I think targeting housewives to teach vermicomposting is the best shot. Because mostly they are responsible for dealing with organic wastes. It's really inspiring :)

Vermicomposting also involves the use of earthworms to digest and excrete organic matter to convert waste into useful material(vermicasting). Thus it indeed helps the environment. Thanks for the informative report Rahul:)

Commendable initiative , Rahul . It is rightly said that if you educate a man , you educate him but if you educate a woman , you educate a generation. Women must be aware of such techniques of mindfully disposing the waste . This subject is most apt for housewives and women who work in kitchen. The choice of target audience was perfect. Thanks for sharing.
