Road condition of Kathmandu |
---|
The local government of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal had taken initiative to expand the roads of the ring road inside the Kathmandu valley and has successfully completed the expansion project in many places. The new expanded roads have 6 lanes, which allow the vehicles to run swiftly specially during rush hours. In addition to that the lane dividers are also kept which are made up of concrete and in the middle part which is hollow, plants are planted and many areas it is covered with beautiful grasses. This makes our road very much beautiful. Apart from that some around 20% of the road consists of solar powered light, which shines brightly at night making the night life here at Kathmandu a great one. Although the cleaning and maintenance of plant in the lane dividers were done for the SAARC summit, people are continuing to care for it and make it last long. For around a week and so the public used to cross the road, steeping on the lane dividers, damaging the grass and plant there, but with the reminder from the volunteers the public have now respect for the public property and they are involved in maintaining the road clean. A lot of trees were cut down during the expansion of the roads and people protested for it. But the government continued with it. Now it is really important that both the government and the public should come up with more concrete and long lasting programs in order to plant the trees and regain the greenery of the city. |

Cutting trees for road expansion is so UNsustainable. It takes few minutes to cut trees while it takes years for plant to grow into tree. I hope if not govt , then at least some volunteers get together and plant trees regularly to regain the greenery of the city.

I agree they must plant 10 trees for every tree cut & must take care of them.
Adding green patches on road is an excellent idea.
