Social Media is omnipresent. All the internet users have at least one account on social media most popularly on facebook, twitter, whatsapp, youtube, snapchat, instagram, tumblr and list goes on. Latest statistics, which you can find just by googling, also prove how social media is invading our life, controlling us in many ways and shaping the way we think, perceive the world, communicate, changing the definition of relationship, our behavior and ?Social? engagement.

No doubts today?s youths consider ?Social Meida? as a part of their life. Logging into facebook, hanging out on google+, posting tweets and photos and sharing every moments of our life is the common culture of nowadays youths.

So If Social media is the new mainstream ways of sharing our life activities and must preferred communication medium, wouldn?t it be awesome to promote our ?Biodiversity? and conservation campaign through the ?Social Media? .

Yes, ?Social Media in Biodiversity Conservation? that was the main theme of the workshop launched by CEE on lucknow held from 2nd March to 4th March, 2015 in which I along with my friend Prashant Bhandari also got chance to participate in.

The 3 days workshop went as per the scheduled all filled with awesome presentation from the eminent person in the field of Biodiversity, Social Media, IT sectors and various field of science.

We got to learn a lot by such experienced resource person like statistics/demography of social media users, hashtags, analytics and social medias? history, uses, types and its pros and cons and so forth. But the thing that attracted me must was the promotion of Science through the cartoons which is coined as the ?Sciencetoons? and ?Strageic Goals and Aichi Biodiversity Targets for the UN Decade on Biodiversity?. Yeah UN has declared 2010s as the International Decade of the biodiversity. Half of the time has already gone and it?s time to help and support each other to reach the goal in next half times.

After all the lectures and presentation for one and half days, we were divided into various groups. Each group has to submit some ideas to by amalgamating all the knowledge and facts we got to learn from lectures and finally promote the biodiversity conservation through social media. And on the last day we were given ample time to make some projects (individual or in group) and give some presentation on the same.

Finally the workshop ended and we were more than happy to know that our project got approved too. By ?our? I mean our group of six students from different states and nations. We coined it as B-TRAPS abbreviated term from our name- Brojo K Basumatary (Assam)

Thang  Phymphu (Manipur)

Rahul Acharya (Nepal)

Ananya Seth (Delhi)

Prashant Bhandari (Nepal)

Shiwani Thakur (Shimla)

To describe in short, the name of our Project is ?Keedafie- selfie with insects?. Keeda means  insect in the Indian language( keera in Nepali language). We merged the term ?Keeda? with selfie to create the new term Keedafie. The main strategy of our project is to promote insect biodiversity with the means of selfie. I will post more in detail in my upcoming report.

Also I got a chance to promoteTunza Eco generation at the workshop while we were discussing about youth engagement in the internet and online  platform and also when I was giving presentation  about  Keedafie.

To put it in nutshell, I had memorable time, learned about both social media and Biodiversity conservation, got to know many people, make new friends, share our own ideas and views  and what?s more to get dream  project approved.
