It has been month of Sundays, since the citizens of Dar Es Salaam Region experienced rain season. I remember the last time it rained was last year and it was spontaneous. So today, out of the blue, it rained and in some parts of the region, it is still raining.
Am in dilemma, when it comes to rain because today, heavy rain stopped me from going to work and also businessmen and women postponed their economic activities which could boost their wallets due to sales of the particular day.
According to the Public Notice, released yesterday by Tanzania Meteorological Agency (Tanzania Authoritative Voice on Weather and Climate Service) states that, there will be heavy rains of maximum 50mm, characterised with floods along the areas located within Inter Tropical Convergence Zone ITCZ. TMA therefore raised a warning to areas along the coast to be careful and to those who reside in areas of poor infrastructure to relocate for a while until the rain season end. It is estimated that, it will rain until 24th March.
Currently, the heavy rain of today has caused a serious damage to road transport whereby some of the roads have been totally destructed, crops have also been destructed and floods everywhere to places of poor drainage system which could allow rain water to pass freely direct to Indian Ocean. Municipal city should take further action towards constructing drainage system to overcome the challenge during heavy rain.
To some extent, Dar Es Salaam Peasants are so excited during this period because their crops can at least attain some water and survive. Mind you that 80% of the population in Tanzania depend in Agriculture to survive.
If am not mistaken, this is due to climate change that is currently happening globally where by climate change is a periodical change in humidity, temperature and also rain season.
HAPPY WORLD WATER DAY IN ADVANCE, THEME FOR THIS YEAR CELEBRATION IS WATER AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

Dear Kalimbo, sad to see the miserable condition of people in Tanzania as a consequence of rain. Climate change is happening and undoubtedly this is an example.
Poor drainage might add problem in addition so I hope government takes concrete actions towards proper drainage system and Disaster Risk Reduction.
I pray the condition gets better soon :)

The pics show it is bad enough to put daily life to standstill.
With climate change likely to increase the intensity of drought events and unpredictability of rainfall in these areas, the governments should prioritise climate resilient planning and strateges. All the best. Hope situation gets controlled fast without much damage.

And that's what is happening in most of the places drought and drizzle
and you are right. Climate change which we can feel now is the reason behind

I also live in tropical country and I have experience the impact of climate change. Long drought through a year and suddenly heavy rain in couple of months. Unlike several decades ago, we are now hardly predicting when exactly the rainy and dry season will come. FYI: till today, Indonesia is still experiencing heavy rain and flood is hitting several big cities.

THis looks pretty bad Kalimbo. from the pictures, I can't spot a single drainage. proper drainage network is most often the solution to this sort of flooding. I pray your government does something about it soon.
Am sorry for the destructions caused by the rains.
