Planting Activity-Forestry Experimental Station USP ESALQ,

by Luiz Bispo | 23-03-2015 02:12 recommendations 0

In 1988, it was incorporated into the assets of the University of Sao Paulo (USP) the remaining forest sites of the former Railway Paulista S / A (FEPASA). Therefore, a Forestry Experimental Station in Itatinga City (EECFI) was created.

Since its foundation, the EECFI has been often used for academic and scientific practices of undergraduate and graduate students of USP ESALQ, contributing significantly to the educational programs and researches of the university.

The main goals of the Forestry Experimental Station are:

1. Promoting technical and operational support for the implementation of activities related to education, science and technology development.
2. Developing and providing environmental education as well as forestry extension.
3. Promoting conservation and environmental issues.
4. Planning and promoting of the multiple uses of forest.

EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND EXTENSION
The experimental station has been promoting a series of activities with the participation of students, teachers and researchers from USP and other national and international institutions.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
The environmental education program is the operational base of education, research and extension. In addition, it aims to transform the experimental station in a reference center for the external demands of public use. For this, the station has infrastructure and attractions of natural beauty where educational and thematic activities can be performed.

FORESTRY, MANAGEMENT AND ENVIRONMENT
The forestry and forest management operations are always associated with environmental conservation. For this, the activities are based on the minimum principles in environmental monitoring and in compliance with the relevant legislation.

MULTIPLE USE FORESTRY
The multiple use of commercial forests is part of day-to-day. Both to promote the best use of timber and non-timber resources, as well as to the sustainability of the experimental station. Each year, the products obtained are: firewood, logs, tree seeds, honey and pine resin. In this context, it also includes two land leases to companies in the pulp and paper industry.

On 21 March 2015, the first year university students of forestry (USP) went for the first time to the experimental station. In the end of the excursion they gather in groups in order to plant native trees. As a supervisor of the Introduction to Forestry Engineer subject I was beside and supporting them for the activity.

PS: As forestry students everyone is required to wear helmet and legs protection.
