The World We Want - 2015

by | 10-04-2015 05:22 recommendations 0

This year, the world we want launches it's spoke model. The world we want works in joint collaboration with United Nation and produces report regarding different section of society.
This venture covers various topics ranging from inequalities to education to environment sustainability and health to water to governance and even more. And one of the topic, Inequalities put me into greater thought. Especially inequalities with girls.  The women are considered to put the most important part of human civilization. Yet, they are dis graded from society. Thus leading to a miserable life.
Inequalities faced by young people take a specific shape when they are addressed through a gender lens. Girls and young women often suffer from gender specific discrimination and disadvantages due to cultural, economic and social reasons.  And in response to this, many people raised their voice over the social media and websites.

Some amazing feature that was a result of this agenda :
Many vocational skills training courses for girls and young women tend to reinforce societal biases associated with household, reproductive and carer positions, rather than challenging and transforming gender roles and carving out new pathways towards gender equity and economic empowerment. In 2002, UNESCO launched its regional ?Technology-based Training for Marginalized Girls? project in South East Asia to facilitate the insertion of girls into occupations and technical and vocational training streams traditionally dominated by men and, in doing so, contribute towards achieving the third EFA Goal: ?Ensuring that the learning needs of all young people and adults are met through equitable access to appropriate learning and life skills programmes.?

In every walk of life girls and young women lag behind boys and young men due to persistent discrimination, inequality and injustice. For millions of girls worldwide, their dreams, ambitions and plans shatter only because they are girls.

?I wish a world would come where wings are not clipped just because you are a girl

Where laughter is not forbidden just because you are a girl

Where dreams are not stolen just because you are a girl??..?

Attitude towards girls and stereotypes, assigned gender roles and social expectationswere the crosscutting themes and were identified as the major impediment for the girls to reach their fullest potential in .Respondents also identified attitude towards girls as the most important building block. The blog submissions emphasized that for the world to be a better place for girls, attitudes towards girls need to be changed. Girls need to feel respected, valued, loved, which boosts their self-confidence and self-respect.

I look forward to raise it to every possible level and would take important measures in respect of this. I hope you all will share this everywhere.

    Well reported Basu.
Respect is the foremost important thing that is missing from our lives.
If respect is there than we need tolerance for all genders between each other.
Given these two factors Equality will not be far behind.
This is a relative term & must not be mixed up by giving extra privileges.

Thanks Basu for sharing in that view. Sister Arushi I could feel your outburst of emotion from here. Well I get your point and that's the idea I have been propagating too. Giving special privileges to women is not the solution to inequality rather you will breed women who are mentally lazy or weak who moves around craving for favours. Equality should be a merit thing rather than an 'aid'.

Thanks so much Basu for advocating for equality of woman. Usually it is rare to find a male standing up for women's rights protection. Really happy and wish you all the best. Man and woman should be treated equally , at times is taken in a different way. In some states , just to prove and show that women are given equal rights , their local govts start giving extra privileges to women like extra quota for women in jobs or parliament positions or higher education colleges or even seats in public bus /trains etc. But I feel that's not equating men and women. The moment you look at women differently even if it is giving them privileges or priority , you again bring an inequality which irates men many a times. Let there be true equality . No negative or positive discrimination against/for women is what we want. Men and women both should have equal rights , facilities and equal respect. Admissions or judgements should be on the basis of merit and not on the fact that one is a male or female. I hope I am not sounding too deep.

Thank you for sharing your insightful writing. Hmm I don't want a family or world half of members(women or any minor groups) are degraded. Real happiness and wellness stems from equal and free world. That's the world I want :)
