Empowering the Youth for a Green ASEAN Community

 I represented the Philippine Youth Environment Network (PhilYEN) at the meeting of the Inter-agency Committee on Environmental Education held in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on April 14, 2015.  The meeting was chaired by Asst. Secretary Corazon Davis.

 

The head of the Environmental Management Bureau-DENR, Ms. Elenida Basug presented the theme of the ASEAN Environment Year which is Empowering the Youth for a Green ASEAN Community.

 

The following presentations were made for the information of the inter-agency committee:


  • 1) 2014 DENR-UPLB Baseline Assessment on Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development Content in Curricula of Selected Public Elementary and High Schools in the Philippines. 
  • 2) Updated National Environmental Education Action Plan   2014-2018 with the ASEAN Environmental  Education Action Plan ( AEEAP) 
  • 3) Results of the Thailand Workshop on the Implementation of the ASEAN Environmental Education Action Plan
  • 4) 2015 National Search for Sustainable and Ecofriendly Schools 

 

Everyone was also asked to support upcoming activities for Earth Day, Earth Month and other local and international environmental events. 

 

Those who attended were from the different offices of the DENR, University of the Philippines School of Environmental Science and Management, National Youth Commission, Philippine Business for the Environment, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Science and Technology, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Work and Development, Department of Education, and me, representing the youth.
