Blue Gold, water is a lot more precious than gold?

 

 

     Hello honorable ambassadors and members. Today, I'd like to share an interesting research on water.

     Do you know the word 'Black Gold'? This word refers to oil, and expresses the value of it in 20^th century. However, 21^st century is called, 'Blue Gold' era. Unlike the past, water has become privatized, therefore need to be paid to use it. In fact, approximately 97% of water all over the globe is sea and only 2.5% is fresh water which we can drink. Therefore, the importance of water is increasing. Some specialists even say that in the future, war for securing water will happen. Like this, water is a resource that we should put more effort on preserving.

     While researching water risk, I found an interesting article. It was a probe called 'Aqueduct Project' conducted by World Resource Institution (abbreviated as WRI) which is a nonprofit institution founded in 1982. This investigation mainly focused on three parts Physical Risk Quantity, Physical Risk Quality, Regulatory & Regulational Risk. Moreover, the detailed result could be seen in various criteria.

     As you can see, many countries are shown at the level of high risk. Even a few countries are in extremely high risk. Considering the population density and the fact that people live in limited area of the world, it is not an overestimation that half of the area is in danger. Then, how about the future? We must focus on the future and the result was interesting.

 

 

     The map attached below is the water risk in 2040 estimated by the institution. If we waste water like these days, this will happen:

 

     Except for the area that does not have data (colored gray), most of the nations are in extremely high risk. Very few of the countries are colored yellow (risk: low to middle). Is it okay if we leave this situation and use water as we want?

 

 

     When I was in elementary school, I was taught in school that we are borrowing the resources from the future generation, thus, we should use it carefully and return it back. But before we think about the future generation, the dangerousness became so huge that now, we, the existing generation cannot even live. Now, the problem is not confined to the future. At least for yourself, you should think back and save the water.
