Captain Planet, he's our hero,

Gonna take pollution down to zero,

He's our powers magnified,

And he's fighting on the planet's side

The catchy song of Captain Planet still rings in my ear. Back to my childhood days, I used to regularly watch the show. In fact I was kind of addicted to this show. I never missed a single episode.

Just Wait!!! I forgot to gave the intro.

What?s actually is Captain Planet?

It an animated environment-awareness series created by Barbara Pyle, Robert Larkin III and Ted Turner. It was broadcast on TBS from September 15, 1990 to December 5, 1992.

They had five planeteers ( youths like us from all around world) -

Kawame -Earth

Gi- Water

Wheeler- Fire

Linka -Wind

Ma-Ti -Heart

All of those selected by Gaia, the spirit of the planet.

Their combined power would make a ?Captain Planet?, the super hero with might power whose only weakness was the pollution.

They also had so many Eco Villians interested in making personal benefits at the cost of our only planet.

What kept me watching the cartoon was it perfect graphic, diversified characters, and explanation of need of our ?environmental activities? in lucid language. It was fun watching Eco villains getting punished by our heroes.

Beside, earth, water, fire and wind, Heart was also taken as one of the planeteers( no wonder if H is back its earth and if its front it Heart). This hold a strong meaning and humanize the planet. Planets could be saved if and only if we indulge ourselves full-heartedly.  

The best part of the show used to be the ending. Where they used to do so many eco-activities, like beach clean up program, cleanliness campaign, building eco friendly home, awareness campaign, tree plantation to list few  and taught us what we can/should do.

The ring of  planeteers was enthralling. I wised If i had one of them and Gaia selected me :D .

Well that was the childhood moment.

Even though I had little knowledge on the environment back then, the cartoon made me believe we are hurting our planet and creating unprecedented havoc situations, consciously and unconsciously. Now I am grasping the essence of the cartoon. As we go through voluptuous books and news articles or even a small  reports, we can conclude What we have done and what our planet has turned out to be.

I would be elated if Captain Planet( or other entertaining environment cartoon) was again launched in popular cartoon networks/channels, where we could teach our coming generation about the environment in very interactive way. Make coming generation ?Eco-generation?.

Conserving our planet is within you, me and us. You are the Planeteers. I am the planeteers.  We are all the Planeteers. Its through our combined power we can wipe out Eco Villians.
