Project My Home: Innovation Catalyst of Positive Change

by Jamaica Layos | 22-05-2015 02:18 recommendations 0

 Hello everyone!

Last May 10, 2015 (Mother?s Day), we had an outreach program in Sitio Bahabaha, Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu City. This outreach program is called Project My Home brought to the children (aged 10 – 18 years old) by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Student Chapter (PICE), Industrial Engineering Council?s Project NOWTBUKS, The Techno Press, Orange Booklet Team. There are 22 children in My Home Center.

My Home Youth Center is a center that houses children who are in conflict with the law. The center is located at Sitio Bahabaha, Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu beside Poor Claire Monastery. My Home has a vision to the children in conflict with law (CICL) aged 10 – 18 years old have become productive members of the society.

In line with the vision of My Home, PICE together with the Project NOWTBUKS TEAM, Orange Booklet Team, and Techno Press conceptualized and organized an event just for the children in conflict with the law. That is why Project My Home exists.

The aim of the project is to make the children happy and to help them realize their vital role in the community. Together with the other organizations, different activities will be conducted with their own goals. This project also aims to provide the children with the basic needs like hygiene kits and foods. It also aims to orient and deepen the knowledge of the children their role in the environment.

My Home Project, with the cumulative effort of each organization, is envisioned to be a great help in realizing the dreams of these youth, engaging them to environmental awareness and empowering them to be a better youth. The small cumulative effort of each organization can significantly make difference to the lives of these youth.

Well, there are three main highlight of the program – Sine Mo ?to, Greeneration: Eco-Notebooks Making Workshop, Youth Empowerment.

The program started with a Sine Mo ?to (Filipino term for ?this is your show?) organized by the Orange Booklet Team. The main goal of this activity was to let the children act their dreams, ambition and goals in life. Indeed, I believe that we met the goal of the activity based on the smile painted on the faces of every child.

The second activity of Project My Home is Greeneration: Eco-Notebooks Making Workshop. Since My Home Center needs school materials for the children and Industrial Engineering Council did not have any money to buy for school materials, Project NOWTBUKS Team taught 22 children how important it is to conserve Mother Earth thru making of eco-notebooks. Well, we did not provide but we leave a LEGACY. This legacy is worth continuing.

The last activity is the Youth Empowerment organized by the Techno Press. The goal of this activity is to let the children know that they can do something better for a greener and productive society.

I believe that we did something worth it. We empowered the children through those activities and their stories inspired us to continue what we are doing for the community. We produced responsible and pro-active children through holistic and fun-filled activities.

We did not just empower them but we deepen the knowledge of the children about their vital role in protecting the environment.
