Nowadays, air pollution is becoming serious problem in several parts of the Earth. Many of them are caused by many causes, one of them is lack of pedestrian. As we know, pedestrian give contribution to reduce gas emission in the air. But, because of there is not good enough public transportation facility, people are prefer to use private vehicle to go work, school and so on. In some countries, which have good mass transportation facility, pedestrians are common and become lifestyle. For example in Sapporo, Japan, people are get used to walk or ride bicycle.

There are some reasons why pedestrian become so popular in Japan. First, pedestrian is the king of road. All vehicles must be stop if there is pedestrian walk in front of them. In some countries, pedestrian have to wait until the road is not crowded enough before pass the road. But, in Japan, pedestrian can just walk and vehicle users give their respect to pedestrian.

Secondly, Pedestrian pathway is comfortable. In some areas, especially in dense areas, government constructed pedestrian pathway with larger width even than main road. It makes pedestrian feel comfort to walk in pedestrian sideway.

Thirdly, becoming pedestrian is more efficient and cheaper than using car. The car price is expensive, and gasoline price as well. Moreover, car tax is expensive and its not that easy to get driving license. They also have to pay hourly fee to park their cars. So, its quite complicated for someone who want to have their own car because there are many necessary procedures.

Its not impossible to make pedestrian become popular around the World and reduce global pollution. Let?s start from ourselves, Now!

Dear Mukhlish, I'm very curious to know on how Japanese prefer to choose being pedestrian. In our country, car and gasoline are expensive too, but they still insist to move with their vehicle. I hope you provide a more detail information about it. Please stay healthy and safe in Japan, be success with your study! :D

Pedestrians play significant role in reducing carbon emissions and reducing vehicle traffic on roads. They should be given priority and if possible incentives too. Glad to note that Japan is giving them respect and priority. Thanks for the report.

You are totally right when saying about pedestrians difficults in some countries. Unfortunately, in Brazil cars are the priority. Pedestrians need to wait the car pass by instead the opposite.
