Dear eco-enthusiasts, I am really pleased to share with you about two events today where I and Rahul brother had a chance to represent Tunza Eco- generation.
As we all know tomorrow is the world environment day (WED) and different campaigns have kick started all over the world. Likewise, today on 4th June Nepal Friendship Society (NFS), Bharatpur Sub Metropolitan municipality, Eco- club of Narayani Public school along with Tunza Eco- generation co- organized the cleanliness cum awareness raising event from 7.20- 8.30 pm. Students from eco- club walked with banners containing green- slogans. Municipality official, women's group, youth from different organizations joined the event. We walked along the main road and collected plastic wrappers, other non- degradable wastes, suggested house owners to keep dustbin in their house and requested them to manage their wastes themselves. Students displayed their placards silently to avoid noise pollution. During sum up, I were given chance to share my views and suggestions. I simply thanked those schools student s for their active participation and admired all those stakeholders who participated for an hour to collect the wastes. I requested them work out together for sustainable solid waste management starting from oneself. Concluding, Mr. Birendra Poudel president of Nepal Freindship Society promised to work together to a clean environment and urged everyone to be committed towards their words. Then after, Rahul brohter and I distributed the souvenirs of Tunza along with a brief description.
After cleanliness campaign, we together with the team of Universal Peace federation (UPF) headed towards a village in Mungling, Chitwan Nepal for distributing support materials to the earthquake affected people. Through UPF we had taken blankets, mattress, tarpaulins, stationery materials, T- shirts, bread etc. Some local people had already arrived to the main road to facilitate us in carrying those materials to the village as vehicle can't go there. After walking the sloppy scary path for couple of minutes finally we reached the school set as venue for the event. The school was severely cracked due to massive earthquake. Students were taking class outside the classroom and in an open room with just the roof. Students mainly belonging to Chepang caste (disadvantaged group) were there. We really felt so bad to see those pretty faces dressed up in such dirty uniforms. We distributed the remaining Tunza- T-shirts explaining it has been sent with love from Korea to those students, organized a drawing competition and then after handed support logistics to the local people. At first students were a bit shy to speak but later on when we took photographs with them, distributed stationery and t- shirts they started speaking frankly and they said THANK YOU every time we give them some stuffs. Our heart was shattered to see the illiterate poor people who had 8- 13 children but no nutritious food to feed safe shelter to live and proper clothes to wear. But positive aspect was their simplicity and satisfaction, their cheerful faces had no complains about their misery and troublesome effects of earthquake. Time flew away so fast and after spending happy time with those charming students and their innocent parents, we returned back.
Happy news to share is UPF Nepal, a social organization where my respected professor Dr. Hom Basnet is a member will be rebuilding the school very soon through foreign aid. I hope students can get better environment in a newly built school.
In this way our two events went successful today. It is so good to be together with my dear Rahul brother in both the events and represent Tunza- Eco- generation. Though today we had a hectic schedule but seeing those kids to aged people smile, rejoiced us and we could feel the invaluable satisfaction in the journey of social service and environmental action.
