A subsidiary of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) has been taking number of green initiatives to reduce it?s carbon footprint. As part of its green initiatives, DTC operates 70 hybrid vehicles and the number is set to rise to 100 by end of this year. Another new initiative is carbon landscaping project. As per this project , for every kiloton of Co2 emitted by taxis, (DTC) will plant a ghaf tree at two locations in the city . It will plant 250 tree in two phases, as part of its efforts to accelerate the Green Economy drive by increasing the greenery and minimising desertification. The initial phase will see planting of 100 ghaf trees against each kiloton of Co2 emissions at Emirates Academy for Civil Defence Sciences at Al Awir. In phase two, 150 trees will be planted at the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services. DTC plans to plant around 500 trees this year across different locations in coordination with different government entities. The Carbon Landscaping initiative complements the green economy concept, which contributes to reducing temperature and humidity rates as well as creating a clean and healthy environment.
