The world environmental day which falls on 5^th June is being celebrated under the theme ?Seven Billion Dreams.One Planet. Consume with Care?. The EEG Annual Awarding Ceremony is organized every year to commemorate WED. The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) invited me to celebrate the World Environment Day with them in 18^th Awarding Ceremony which was held on 28th May 2015 in the Conference Center of Knowledge Village, Dubai from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. to appreciate the hard work of the individuals, corporate and educational institute members who have contributed significantly to save the environment.

As an active member of Emirates Environmental Group, I am involved in plethora of recycling campaigns in the UAE. I make it a point to recycle all types of waste and spread awareness on the importance of increasing the sustainable green patch.

All my tireless efforts placed me in the Top Ten Bracket of the participants in the Glass Collection Campaign. Glass is a 100% recyclable material. Glass takes thousands of years to break down as it does not decay with time. I encourage glass recycling in my community as it saves natural resources like sand and limestone and reduces air pollution. I am collecting soft drinks, ketchup and mayonnaise bottles, perfume bottles, juice and medicine bottles, single layered flat thin glass and water containers.

EEG felicitated me and commended my efforts by presenting me a mounted certificate of appreciation. The event recognized the highest achievers and the dedicated recyclers residing in the UAE. Top performers who had contributed significantly to save the environment were recognized for their efforts and EEG is always inspiring them to do better in the coming year.

The program comprised of a speech by Mrs Habiba Al Marashi, the chairperson of EEG, a visual presentation highlighting the achievements of EEG in the year gone by and finally the distribution of prizes in various categories of recycling at the school, industry and individual level.

The EEG facilitates waste management programmes that promote the collection of paper, glass, toners, plastic, mobile phones, beverage cartons, aluminum cans and batteries for protecting and preserving the natural resources in the UAE. Our aim should be to reduce the size of landfills by diverting the quantity of waste and by creating a culture of recycling in the society.

The efforts of these participants towards recycling over these past many years has truly made a positive difference towards building a sustainable future for the UAE and greatly reducing the carbon footprint of the country.
