I am so thankful to the Eco Generation Team for valuing my contribution to the Biodiversity Map.

Magical Mekong

The species were highlighted in a new report by WWF

139 bizarre and beautiful new species were discovered in the Greater Mekong region that includes Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam only last year.

The newly found species include

a color-changing thorny frog

a soul-sucking dementor wasp

a stealthy wolf snake

the 10,000th reptile species discovered in the world

a bat with remarkable fangs

the world?s second-longest insect

two orchids discovered through the wildlife trade, and many more.

The Greater Mekong Region teems with life. In the past seven years, 2 216 new species have been found. These critical natural resources are however under threat. The Greater Mekong is one of the top five threatened biodiversity hotspots in the world. It is threatened by hydropower, road and infrastructure development. Climate change only increases the pressures on the landscapes.
