Every minute the amount of pollution on earth is increasing. Air,water, land, whichever we talk about. It feels like I'm taking in all sorts of dirt and smoke. I start imagining what it must be doing to my lungs and then my thoughts wander to the future generations. The thought worries me.
In India, Air pollution is a serious issue with some of the sources being fuel wood and biomass burning, vehicle emission, fuel adulteration, burning of crop residue in the fields.Traffic congestion on roads is a daily matter in Indian urban lives. Slow speed vehicles ,per trip, produce 4 to 8 times more pollutants than free flowing vehicles.
Air pollution not only damages our lungs, but also can damage our brain. Delhi, the capital of India, is the Asthama capital of India! delhi's air is the worst. After Delhi, the second most polluted city in India is my very own city Patna.
It has been found that Indians have 30% lower lung function compared to Europeans.India has a low per capita emission of greenhouse gases but still stands as the third largest after China and America.
For a developing country like India, pollution stands as a major challenge which is becoming bigger as different practices continue to take place.
A study says that cleaner air could save 1.4 million lives in India and China. Since the Air Act passed in 1981 to regulate air pollution, there have been some measurable improvements but India is yet to rise in Environmental Performance Index.

Oh, this article seems like an answer to Faysal's request. Thanks for sharing the Indian status. We need to urge the government to make some regulations among vehicles and factories around Delhi. I was surprised by the news about the Beijing's air quality has been enormously improved after the ban of the old cars in the city. Check the linked article.

I just read the report by Fayshal - on same issue of unacceptable air quality in Bangladesh. and now about India. The bitter fact is that most of the developing countries are facing this challenge. Govts. must get theirs acts right to control it before it becomes deadly dangerous every minute. This report shows , it is already at alarming levels in India.
Thanks for the report , Yagya.
