Waste management becomes an important because it plays an important role in handling the negative factors to environment. The recycle materials are a great idea and I do agree that we should make it daily habit for companies, government and society. However, I reckon that reduce of consumption and wisdom of reusable items also should be precede before implementing good ideas.

Those ideas are called the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). This is a smart thought that can in fact change human behaviors and provide sustainable development for citizens.  First of all, "Reduce" means that you provide a less amount of waste and considered as the most effective way for environment among 3Rs.

To do "Reduce" what can we do?

1. If you want to buy something that you do not use often, just borrow from friends.

2. One of the serious cause to damage an environment is from cars. It is good if you use the public transportation such as bus, subway and bicycle. Do you remember what I posted before at Tunza Eco Generation? If someone who read my article from Sao Paulo, it could be great idea to use the bicycle path at Paulist avenue.

3. Do you throw way the left food in the bin? If you have yard, please start to use it as compost.  As people know,  the materials are decomposed naturally.  Therefore , instead of making garbage , just let it disappear.

4. The easiest habit but it is easy to forget! Always keep in mind that turn it off after use the light!

5. When you brush your teeth and wash yourself , please turning off the faucet!

6. Please avoid overly packaged goods, most of the packaging will be in the landfill!

    

Secondly, what is the reuse? "Reuse" is to find a way to use it again before throw it away or recycle!  It could be confused between reuse and recycle! Let me give you example!

1. Do you like snack ? I do, I do a lot. These days there are many kinds of good storage or containers to store snack in the store.  If you more care about that kinds of items such as coffee cans , boxes or jam jar etc, you can realize that you can store  other stuffs with them or it can become a fun art  and crafts projects.

2. If some electronic products are broken, do not buy and try to fix!

3. The old clothes or the toys and mobile phone could be donated instead of throw away

4. In particular, my father is good at reusing many stuffs. For example, my mother use to buy a lot of shoes for me. There are many boxes from them and my father use them as keeping my stationary. Also once he buys water bottle , it is reused as another water bottle for fridge all the time.

Lastly, let me describe the "Recycle".  There are many materials that can be recycled such as soft drink cans and paper bags etc. These things are possible to be created to new ones after going through the certain process.

As you can see on the street, there are certain bins for recyclable items. You can collect recyclable items or separate them carefully, which could be helpful to take an efficient action for Recycle.  Furthermore, you can check the label that shows the product includes the recycled materials or not.  You can help environment by buying the products having the label.

In light of this, those three R?s principle, I have chosen the "Recycle" to educate the children.  I developed an activity for children and youth from the "Casa do Bom Menino" which is non-profit organization.

The institute is a shelter site for individuals who got violated their right and who are vulnerable to society. We planned to apply an efficient system of waste management to this institution. With some discarded barrel coming from an oil company, we could reuse it and manage the waste in recyclable materials as well as non recyclable ones. Therefore, due to the fact that the barrels were quite old and damaged, I and some children and youth from the "Casa do Bom Menino" planned to paint them with vivid colors exploring the art ability of each one.

Since started to work this organization, I made a group Facebook page named "Planting and Learning Project – Casa do Bom Menino". I shared my process the project and reported the daily work. Mainly, we exchange the opinion for the project and discuss about future plan. I sent to other educators to help me this project and collected volunteers as well.

In the beginning, it was very hard to keep them control because they are always very exciting and distractive easily. However, we never gave up of draw their attention to the activity. However, we kept teaching how important environment is and brought down to the children?s level to share their ideas.  In particular, fun art project is very effective and attractive to grab their interest.

 I believe that the art is the most honest language to express myself.  It is a well known fact that when people draw, dopamine is released in the region, which is related to increasing creativity, making decision, and planning our actions. When people create new objects or actions made by the creator?s own decisions, the dopamine is provided. "Freedom and ownership are part and parcel of the neurochemistry of the arts," said, James E. Zull, Professor of Biology, Biochemistry, and Cognitive Science and Founding Director of the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education at Case Western Reserve University.

I do believe that art is a way that people can express their feeling and ideas. Moreover, it can be the track to change the world because it has the power to make people get immersed in ideologies and concepts.

So, the creative art work and environmental concepts with practical project will reduce the negative impact on our planet through a proper waste management. Hopefully, I expect that my project is an important trigger for children to raise children awareness. I believe that they shall be able to spread out the messages along the local community.
