In my previous article, I have introduced there is "Environmental Policemen"called IBAMA in Brazil. This Brazil's environmental protection agency launched to protect Brazil's natural resources but also apply fines to people who violate any law related to environmental preservation. I have found the good news that they arrested the biggest destroyer of Amazon on February, 2015.
It is hard to believe that the man named "Ezequiel Antônio Castanha" have deforested 20% of Brazil's Amazon alone recent years. He invaded the public forests and clears them to sell to cattle grazers. What is even worse is the offender did not regret what he did.
He has cut down 15,000 hectares of forests over the past decade and generated $15million of environmental destruction. He will be charged to be sentenced in jail up to 46years. He became notorious for the king of deforestation.
In Amazon, environmental police have struggled with loggers. This agencies use satellite imagery and trace them with helicopters. In addition to that, they create new strategy, hire the local informant and work with under cover.
Not to mention how and why the rainforest in Amazon is very important. The Amazon is one of the world's most important natural protectors from global warming due to its main role, in which absorb a large amount of carbon dioxide. Protecting environment is our natural duty. I hope environmental police to catch more loggers but at the same times, there are no more this kinds of criminals in the future.

I was happy to read that land grabber , Castanha, was arrested for illegally destroying tens of thousands of square kilometres of Amazon forest. How can people be so selfish and cruel towards other life forms. Good vigilance by IBAMA. Hope he gets severe punishment which serves as deterrant for others. Thanks for sharing , Luiz.

well deserved ! its not only deforestation but murder , tress that he cut down had lives too . people like him must be punished the hardest .

This is a very good news! I hope there will be environmental policemen throughout the world like here in our country. We only have a governing agency which can only impose fines for violations. They need the help of other agencies to capture the likes of these criminals.

A man deforested 20% of Brazil's Amazon alone, this is terrible. I appreciate the efforts of Environmental Police at Brazil and hope that other loggers learn a lesson from this.
