|BRAZIL| Flood in Brazil due to Climate Change

by Luiz Bispo | 13-08-2015 10:08 recommendations 0

As people know, the drought due to climate change is one of the significant issues we have to consider. I used to write down the articles regarding chronic problem of drought in Brazil. However, on the other hand, there is the serious issue of flood in Brazil as well. Climate change has a negative effect on human's life in many ways.

Last year, Careiro da Varzea in the Brazilian state of Amazonas was submerged causing a great deal of damage. This flood was recorded as one of the worst ones in history, which affecting over 300,000 people. The river reached the emergency level and the water remained at homes in poorest area for over 50 days.

Many people were suffering from lack of sanitation, dirty water and difficult to reach to school. People died of bacterial infection from the contaminated water and waited for long time to take transportation. Experts say the climate change causes the unexpected change in weather system. The flooding and drought appeared in Brazil by turn, which is considered as a warning from the nature to human.

In light of this, climate change also requires proper management in construction industry. Nature disaster has been increased over the last decade, from which many residents and businesses have damages and cost a lot to recover and restore. Therefore, proper insurance system and risk management have to be reviewed and make a critical planning.

Water is important. Human cannot live without water but surplus water could harm people as well. Although the earth offers us essential resources, if we cannot take care of it well, we can lose or get suffer from it. The nature keeps sending us warning to stop damage of environment. We should be aware of it.

Managing climate risks is a major challenge of today and for the future. Climate-related disaster risk is increasing. The number of hydro-meteorological hazards (droughts, floods, wind storms, forest fires or landslides) have significantly increased in recent years-all triggered by Climate Change . I agree with you that it is important to consider such risks and be prepared. Proper insurance system and risk management have to be reviewed .
But the ultimate action needed is to act sustainably to mitigate climate change impacts.
    Thanks for sharing, Luiz.

Excess of everything is bad. Here in this context, the excess of fiddling with nature has made us vulnerable. Floods, Landslides, Earthquakes were not so frequent & disastrous just 50-60 years ago.
This time is is Brazil suffering the brunt of Nature. I feel so bad, so insecure in front of this massive destruction.
God Bless & take care, Luiz.

I think the climate change is a global phenomenon. It was very prominent in Nigeria this year. The rains came very late and is now hitting hard that many places are becoming flooded.

Dear Luiz, the impacts of climate change is so prominent. In Nepal also some regions had gone dry due to no timely rainfall while as other regions are submerged with flood.
Climate change has been a greatest challenge for the generation of 21st century, disaster preparedness can help minimize the losses.
So sorry to hear about the flood in Brazil last year :(
