The water that we drink is from rain. However, we cannot drink it directly. We need the purifier to filter out and then can get the clean water. It is not difficult to find various water purifiers for family use. What if there is natural machine to recover the contaminated ones to clean, how good it is? I would like to introduce the South American plant that to purify soil.
Scientists from NL and Brazil discover the plant to use purify the contaminated soil. It is important point that domestic plant is preferred because the invasive species could be harmful. The plants found, Gomphrena claussenii are able to grow on soil polluted with zin and camium and their stem and leaves enable to take up heavy metal. Interestingly, they are not poisoned themselves by toxic
As I can see along the beach where I volunteered, human activities make the soil contaminated. In particular, Cadmium is detrimental to animals as well as humans. The scientists reported through experiments that these plants can resist against heavy metals and has not suffered from contaminated soil. Once they are removed, the zinc and cadmium are also removed with them as well.
The scientists expect that Gomphrena claussenii will bring a safe soil to human within 5 years. This plant is the first plant from South American Plant, which can clean the soil with the most eco-friendly method. The scientists look forward to further research to understand their mechanism.
The best way to protect the environment is absolutely not to damage our nature. However, if we find the sustainable way to solve the problems that already exist, it will be the good option to step forward to preserve our nature. I hope that these plants could be found more than before to protect all.

It's nice to know about this interesting metallophyte species /plant "Gomphrena claussenii" which has potential to purify the contaminated soil without any harm to itself. It's effectiveness in phytoremediation can make it very useful in detoxing waste lands and unlock vast areas for agriculture . Thanks for an interesting and very informative report , Luiz.

Amazing stuff Luiz. This plant is quite interesting. Nature has answers to all the mischiefs committed by mankind.
This must be further studied & thoroughly utilised.

Wow! Gomphrena claussenii plant can purify soil naturally without harming itself, this is awesome finding. I wish all the best for scientists to discover more about the mechanism of this plant. Biological purifying can be the best one :)
Thank you for sharing this wonderful news dear Luiz :)

Soil is an important component of our ecosystem like water. Thus it is important to prevent it from getting contaminated.Disposal by industries have resulted in accumulation of heavy metals in the soil.In such situations, such plants that purify soil become all the more necessary.Informative report. Thanks!

Hi Elson, I am glad to know that you also are doing forestry right? Indeed, heavy metals are very harm to our soil and consequently to our mother Earth. Also, it is very cool to know that the nature itself is able to cure the land. Thanks for your comment!!! =)

Hi! I find this article interesting because we also have a lot of studies on plants that have the capacity to recover contaminants, especially heavy metals, from the soil. Such kinds of these plants can be used as cover plants in areas such as former mine fields where excess/unused metals are disposed and eventually accumulated.
