Revenue from the recycled paper used in humanitarian activities

by Arushi Madan | 16-08-2015 06:43 recommendations 0

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) the world?s largest district cooling services provider, in line with it?s firm commitment towards sustainability , has recycled 11 tonnes of paper used in its offices and plants, since it kicked off its recycling programme in 2011.

Starting in May 2011, all shredded documents at Empower were sold to vendors as scrap paper, and the generated income was donated to needy people identified by the company. The donations varied between covering medical expenses, eye glasses, medicines not covered by insurance, helping families who have medical challenges, reconstruction of houses affected by floods, air tickets and groceries for needy people, and marriage aid amongst other humanitarian activities.

Through this CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility)programme of theirs , Empower is conserving the global environment as well as paying back to the community. Also, part of the income from this programme goes to the Emirates Red Crescent to aid them in their goals and projects.

Empower data recycles all papers , including confidential shredded documents, newspapers, cardboard boxes and mixed papers. All employees have been told clearly the significance of paper recycling.

With such CSR initiatives , they have taken community support to the next level  and were awarded the Dubai Chamber CSR Label in recognition of its success in operating sustainably and responsibly across its corporate practices.

Empower currently operates more than 1 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments and adopt sustainability in all their operations.

Empower is surely setting examples for other companies and by using revenue from their paper recycling , they are empowering the less privileged.

WOW!!! What an inspiring story that is,,, CSR at another level... Wish we had more recycling companies like those in my city too. The only one paper recycling company in Bulawayo has distanced itself from the community it should be serving.
EMPOWER is surely making efforts to empower the community. Thanks for Sharing Ms Madan.
