SOLVED ENVIRONMENT PROBLEMS

by | 23-08-2015 22:05 recommendations 0

It was on March 15th, 2015 that I wrote a report titled "Solving Environment Problems".
In that report, I told the story of a an area where new developers in a bid to access their lands with cars, filled the good drainage channel there with sand when constructing a culvert was the only reasonable option. This action was repeated along three points of the same drainage channel at the ministry of works road Amawbia, Anambra state.
My friend living in that area had made me aware of the situation and acted immediately bringing the situation to the notice of the Anambra State Waste Management Agency branch in Amawbia(ASWAMA) and the operation officer promised to see that the situation was corrected.

Now, I am happy to report that the drainage channels are now free of the sands they previously filled it with. Four culverts have been constructed at various points of the drainage channel to enable access to development areas for people with cars. It is now a good sight to see and I can't hide my excitement. The operations officer I met at ASWAMA, Mr. Tony, said they-in acting on my visit- told the defaulters to clear the drainage and they did while constructing four new culverts on their own. In fact, according to Mr. Tony, the people are hoping to construct one more culvert.
With that, the area is rapidly developing with kiosks and car wash centers springing up. There are sights of weeds growing in one part of the channel but that won't be a challenge as it,sure, will be taken care of by the inhabitants of that area.

I am so happy to record another success with my advocacy. The people living in that area may not know how the change came about but I am just happy to see them live in a good environment with clear drainage channels.
You can see the pictures of the new culverts below.
