The plight of farmers

by | 22-10-2015 21:42 recommendations 0

A few weeks ago, I was in a village, carrying out surveys and getting to know the problems the villagers face on a daily basis. While talking to a farmer we came to know that this year the agricultural produce was very low and most of the crops got destroyed before cultivation due to drought. In India, agriculture is mostly dependent on monsoon. And when there's less rainfall, farmers have to suffer because the produce is not enough.
In the village I visited, agriculture and animal husbandry are the main means of income for the people, so they are having a difficult time in arranging money for their households. They have to take very odd jobs to fill the stomachs of their children, but, something is better than nothing!
Lack of irrigation facilities and knowledge of the right way of cultivation leads to less agricultural produce and as a result, it's the farmers who suffer.
Ideas on improving the condition of these farmers have been introduced by the government and various other organisations but implementation is still in progress and is delayed.

Thank you for your report, Yagya. It's quite similar here in Indonesia as it hasn't rained in quite sometime. Hopefully the government will do something about it. Keep up the good work!

That is sad news! =( Hopefully government and organizations will do something to change this situatio but I believe that if every person from the community get together in order to figure out a solution, the problem also can be solved! =) Thanks for sharing! Keep it up.

dear friend, I am from Nepal and the condition is same here too..
the uneducated farmers and unstable government is the main cause of it and until and unless the leaders wouldn't act on it there is no solution for it.
And farmers also need to be empowered and modern technology should be launched for it..

The farmers should be assisted by the Government and they must be educated about the right and sustainable ways of farming. Thanks for reporting,Yagya.

Thanks for raising this issue up. It is a very genuine and critical concern of farmers. As Bindu di said , farmers need to be trained and educated about climate change and vulnerability , should be given technical assistance by govt . Most important government should secure them in events where there is not enough rainfall or unavoidable circumstances leading to less produce.

Dear Yagya, the condition is not different in Nepal too. Efforts from government is crucial in providing technical assistance, weather forecast before hand and irrigation facility to the farmers. Whereas farmers also need to be empowered with the knowledge about climate change and vulnerability, adaptation technique for which we can take initiative,
Thank you for the report dear Yagya :)
