The food basket

by | 23-10-2015 06:27 recommendations 0

Sudan was known as the world's food basket, because it contains more than 19.1 million hectares that have the ability to be cultivated which is more than the Arab countries.

In the past years we suffered from heat waves, floods, decrease in the botanic overlay and the iniquities cutting of the forests. Sudan needs to enhance and support the sustain administration of the forest?s resources through developing strategies which are environmentally effective and socially contained depreciate of the emissions caused by the forests, and encourage activities aimed to improve living and keep the biological diversity.

We live in an areas affected by the climate change, in the vast majority of the territory of Sudan sensitive to changes in temperature, precipitation water and the movement of the water are suffering from fragility. Sudan depends on rain-fed agriculture which could lead to food shortage.

Some efforts from ministry of environment focus on cultivation of forests, legislation and technical aids to empower the environment.

It's sad that climate change, along with other conditions of course, has an affect on the agriculture of Sudan. Thank you for sharing your report with us. Keep up the good work!

Ambassador, cultivation of forests is not the way out. Sudan must rethink and come up with a better solution.

    good information
believe effort can be made by government and non governmental organization to help improve on some act in sudan that has caused a set back in agricultural produce, especially in the area of peace keeping because this could be one of the major hindrance in the state of things in the nation especially in the south sudan.
We can also be a mouth in this area of peace keeping too.

Good to know Sudan as the world's food basket, but unfortunately not enough is being done to explore it's potential or cover the risks of climate change. Thanks for sharing , Mohamed.

Happy to know that Sudan has so much of cultivable land and known as Food basket as well. In the other hand, it feels sad to know that the agriculture is rain- fed and climate change is adversely affecting the cultivation. Effective adaptation and technical empowerment is need for overcoming the effects of anthropogenic climate change.
Thank you for the report dear Mohamed :)
