|NEPAL PART 2| FUEL CRISIS AND PATHWAY TO NEW NEPAL

by | 25-10-2015 12:55 recommendations 0

Early in the morning, I was taking sip of tea, relaxing at my balcony and enjoying roses that were blooming. Looking at those deep color of roses, I got lost in my own thought. I pondered about current situation of my country. Disheartening certainly I was. But I can't always stay that way.

There?s goes a popular saying ?Even Rose has thorn?. May be fuel crisis, shortages and these strikes are thorns. Rose has got its value because of its thorn as well. May be it's a time we pour our concern on petals. To look at beautiful sides of everything. To be positive in every part of our life.

I commenced my positive expedition in our daily activities. While thinking about positivity in energy terms, I remember those fossil fuel free vehicles which has gained its popularity sporadically. These electric run vehicles are in very high demand. Moreover, many people are opting for such kind of vehicles. Be it for going to market or school and offices, we all use them. It's a great triumph for us to see layman using electric vehicles.

When I went to Kitchen, I saw ricecooker being reused. Owing to loadshedding, we had left using rice cooker. Nowadays, we are using them to cook most of our foods. This has tremendously reduced Kerosene. Though electricity crisis could hinder us but increment in their uses is certainly a step forward.

There was tendency of everyone of us to lavishly spend fuels. Even if there was a distance of 10 minutes walks, we used vehicles. Walking was deemed badly especially in urban areas. Thanks to fuel crisis, there has been u-turn in such thinking. Walking is preferred even for a walk of an hour. My neighbor aunt and uncle go for walking, we brother and sister go to market together. We meet nearby place, either by walking or using bicycle. Every time we never forget to say "this most healthiest and cheapest way of travelling" And I enjoy to watch many of them  and most prominently myself walking and bringing goods.

Whenever I go to market or nearby shops, I hear people talking about  using solar in cooking, promoting electric / non-fossil-fuels-fed vehicles, reducing of dependency on fuels and many more. People are feeling necessity of increasing capacity of micro and macro hydro electricity power, establishing  Wind mills in hilly and himalayan region. They are releasing the negative impact of our total dependency on fossils. Slight glow us there in my face. So easy to notice by anyone.

Overhearing such demand and expectation of people, complete change in fossil fuel prospectus, I go back to home leaping. Excited, I go through Social Networking sites. I see most of my friends posting about alternative sources of energy, demanding for bicycle lane and walking culture. What?s more, few of my friends who barely acknowledged possibly fuel crisis are also posting for promotion of alternative sources. It adds smile to my grim face.

Its obvious I can't control my happiness. I get euphoric. Then father and mother ask me,?Why you look so happy?? They might find my answer amusing but at least they congratulate me saying ?Seems like you and your friends are getting fuel to be even more fervent environmentalist.?

They are absolutely right. Just few months back(before inception of the crisis), environment conservation was considered merely a work of environmentalist and handful of I/Ngos and Government officials. I have even experienced this saying from people ?Oh, Its environment. Not our business. Thought there were about some health tips or new politics?. Despite our toil, we were not able to reach every nook and corner of the country to implement eco ideas. In addition, Fossil fuel crisis was even harshly deemed extreme hypothetical propaganda of us.

With this temporary crisis, people have realized the need of alternative sources. People are acknowledging cons of our absolute dependency on fossil fuels. We have experienced slight aftermaths of fossil fuel crisis. We don't need to give example of what will happen if we continue to rely on fossils. So it's time we learn from our experience and stride towards uses of alternative sources. Government of Nepal and also Government of whole world (taking us an example of possible fossil fuel crisis country), needs to bring policy upheaval. Research on efficient solar power, deduction on taxation on the use of hydroelectricity or wind mill needs to be done from government level. This ideas needs to be disseminated rampantly.

I consider this as Utopian time for every environmentalist to take lead not only in conservation sector but also on energy, electricity and other sectors of government, implement sustainable practices resonating with SDGs of UN.

I would like to share this one saying I found on facebook, ?An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When Life is dragging you back with difficulties, I means it?s going to launch into something great. So just Focus and Keep Aiming.?

A smooth sea never made a skilful sailor. Let?s all work together to find pragmatic solution to current crisis.
