"Green Attitude to Green Action" Workshop 2015

by | 09-11-2015 04:22 recommendations 0

The Emirates Environmental Group(EEG) based in Dubai aims to transform and enrich lives through the means of education whilst recognizing the role of education as a driving force for development.

A plethora of their educational programmes fall in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 ?Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all?.

The Students? Workshop is one of the implementation platforms, which provides the younger generation an opportunity to learn the value of a sustainable future and methodologies for them to reach those goals.

There are various environmental issues facing the world and especially the UAE today, some of which require immediate attention more than the other. It is with this view in mind that the workshop for this year was themed around targeting the most important environmental challenges

-?Global Environmental Challenges – From Green Attitude to Green Action?

In my perception, the best part of the entire workshop was that it did not happen in one day. In order to disseminate awareness among different age groups of students in a way they can absorb and understand, the workshop took place on November 2nd for grades 5-6 (Juniors), 3rd for grades 7-9 (Sub-Senior) and 4th for grades 10-12 (Senior). I was in the Senior (grade 10) category.

Another aspect which was another feather on EEG?s green cap was thatthe workshop did not just focus on students but  also provided an opportunity for teachers to network with and get some great tips on new techniques of inclusive teaching and learning.

In my belief, the topics being covered were of high relevance to the current global and national environmental challenges from food wastage and water scarcity to climate change and global warming and provided an opportunity to the youth to present their arguments and solutions to tackle these issues.

Interactive brain storming sessions, debates and discussions and hands on practical exercises were all be a major theme in this year?s workshop, influencing students to cooperate and learn from each other.
