There is poor disposal of solid waste in Garissa municipality. These solid wastes have led to nuisance smell and vermin infestations. It is also high breeding zones for mosquitoes and flies. This is the source of disease transmission especially those related to water borne diseases. It also alters with the image of our streets.

The biggest and the one that needs immediate action is the solid waste. They contribute to almost 75% of the waste generated in our homes and in big facilities. From packaging to storage, they have formed part of our daily lives.

The other major issue is the infestation of invasive tree species Prosopis juliflora. This tree has grown all over the town with its damages being uncountable. From health hazards to blockage of water pipes and roads, it needs proper utilization. The campaign targets a proper use of this tree species.

As a young leader, it will be legacy to leave behind for my society. This campaign will be one and the only campaign geared towards the cleaning and greening of Garissa Municipality. The campaign targeting the residents of the municipality will be a moment to remember as a young environmental ambassador.

This idea has been well digested by the local Municipal Council who pledged full support for this campaign. With the establishment of a tree nursery with 10,000 trees, the local council will be in a position to distribute these seedlings to the as the lead agency in greening the municipality.

A local corporate institution has also responded positively to distribute free dustbins as its support towards a clean municipality.

With the environmental awareness being in increase, the situation is getting better with the literate society taking the leading role in ensuring environmental protection and conservation. It will only be through the support of the community members who will make this campaign a success.
