Water flow may rise up in Asian River |

Contrary to fears that water supplies in the major Asian rivers would decline in the near future, new research now shows that water flow in these rivers will be stable and may even increase in the coming decades.
The great Asian rivers have their source on the Tibetan Plateau or in the neighboring mountains.
The Tibetan Plateau is the highest and most extensive area of high land in the world, and what happens there affects water resources for almost a third of the world?s population.
Increased precipitation and melt water from glaciers and snowfall are contributing to increased water flows in the region. The researchers studied future climate change and its effect on the water balance in the region. The study published in the journal Global and Planetary Change modeled the water flows upstream in the Yellow river, the Yangtze, the Mekong, the Salween, the Brahmaputra and the Indus.
The study includes both data from past decades and simulations for future decades. The results showed that water flow in the rivers in the coming decades would either be stable or would increase compared from 1971-2000.
A report by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 2007 suggested that the glaciers in the Himalayas would be gone by 2035.This statement was questioned and caused a great stir. This mistaken claim and the subsequent debate pointed to a need for a better understanding of the dynamics of climate, glaciers and future water supplies in the region.

Exactly Rohan Rise of Water level should not be the cost of melting glaciers )

This needs in-depth studies & accurate analysis about the status of Glaciers of Himalayas. It is quite disturbing to note their possible extinction in near future.
Rise of water in connected rivers is welcome but must not be at the cost of melting of glaciers.

You are right Arushi. It might be due to glacier melting or also due to increase in precipitation. If its due to increase in precipitation its happy news for us . On the other edge if its due to Glacier melting it will be dangerous for us.Hope it is for positive.

Exactly Yuna, We need to cause and work for it by knowing it is positively controlled or negatively.

On one hand it is a respite to know that water level in these Asian rivers may stabilise or increase . On other hand , if it is due to melting of glaciers then it is certainly not a good thing. Glaciers play a crucial role in ecosystem so they must be restored and we must continue to fight against climate change. Thanks for a well written report and thanks for sharing a new view point and research findings .

Sujan, Thank you for sharing :) Surely this I something we should be concerned about.. It is important to know what it is causing rise of water flow as well as to take a step to prevent further process

Thanks Prakriti for going through my article.

There are many facts that might support to increase water content in Asian Rivers such as Global Warming and precipitation might add too.
Thannks for Great Article )

Brother You are right but precipitation has also share on it. Precipitation can be due to increased awareness on people about afforestation. So , Either to take it positively or negatively depends on us. Yeah it sounds negative in this age of Climate Change and Global Warming.

See we can't cherish this rise of water in the rivers since it's due to the great meltdowns of the glaciers . Temperatures are increasing , it's becoming more and more warm . A time may come when there might be no glaciers left . So we need to figure out the long term solutions for increasing temperatures .
