Day-3 UN CBD COP11 |
---|
The third day started with the working group session from 10 Am in the morning to almost 4 Pm this was the most valuable session. The session started by the facilitator by inviting our comments about the last days session on Eco-tourism I gave my inputs regarding the same as well as about Sustainable rural tourism as a possible opportunity for education in Biodiversity conservation. After this we were given the task of finding out recommendations for achieving the Aichi Targets. All the participants were divided into different groups and each group was given separate Aichi strategic goals. The 5 Aichi strategic Goals are divided into 20 Aichi targets. http://www.cbd.int/sp/targets/ I was selected for group 5, the group had to present recommendations on Strategic Goal E - Enhance implementation through participatory planning, knowledge management and capacity building. I was selected as the group leader who had the responsibility to present the recommendations in front of the expert panel. We used the case study approach to find the recommendations , after hours of brainstorming we came out with 6 recommendations and 10 action plans. We have to find our recommendations on the basis of CEPA- Communication, Education and Public Awareness as well as role of youth. Some of our recommendations were -: 1. Biodiversity education act to be included in national biodiversity strategy and action plan 2. Promoting Eco-tourism and camping through Youth organizations and Youth led groups. 3. Youth organizations and Ngos to conduct seminars and workshops for awareness about biodiversity conservation in schools and colleges 4.Promoting local innovative practices and promote them through campaigning and advertisements. 5. Global efforts for conservation - Developed countries should help developing countries in terms of technology and finance. After presenting our recommendations in front of the panel, they judged the presentation as the only presentation in an organized manner out of 5 presentations it was mainly due to the case study approach of finding out the recommendations. After the working group session we went to the closing plenary where all the recommendations from different working group sessions were stated. The recommendations went to the high level segment of COP 11. |
