Green Day in Al-Fikri Junior High School |
---|
Environmental education in schools couldn?t be separated from the role of teachers as educators. That is tried to adopt in Al-Fikri Junior High School, Depok, West Java. Each year, the school have an event called "Green Day" where the students will learn more about current environmental issues.
On October 22, 2012, Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (Kehati) invited to give a learning in Green Day session on the second day with the titled "How much carbon do you use?". Teens Go Green as a community initiated by Kehati Foundation had the opportunity to participate in and facilitate Green Day on that day.
Me and my friends as member of Teens Go Green acted as facillitator. We ran a video titled "Friends for River" to treat an opening that will take the students to the next discussion session. Naturally, I think, people know a decent place to choose. Almost all students have the same testimony after watching the video. They prefer to live in the upstream that are still clean, clear water river than in the city that are already polluted, full of garbage. Unfortunately, it doesn?t bring understanding in human act. That's what happened to us today. There is no awareness in human living in the polluted city to improve their environmental.
After the video, we brought them to learn more about type of trash that fullfill river in Jakarta City, especially Polystirena-foam. Ciliwung river is the witness from this type of trash that is not friendly to the preservation of the river ecosystem. Today, Polystirena-foam have been using almost all in the city as food container whereas we know it have bad impact to ecosystem and human healths. Last treat, we elaborated our annual event that is currently running, Ajang Kreasi: The Journey of Teens Go Green. It is Teens Go Green?s annual event as the conclusion of all the Teens Go Green public campaign all the years. On the that day, I concluded that was a happy day. Hopefully, with this environmental education can make more children to have high awareness about the environment. (B5) |
