Korea : Goods and Bads

Hello~ my fellow eco-lovers!  How have you all been doing?

Sorry for such a long interval between my first article and this one.  I'll try my best to prioritize article writing next time.

On my last article, I gave you some information on how Korea is suffering from severe air pollution.  Here's one more supporting the issues:

A world map that you could see the degree of air pollution of each nation with was recently released.  This map was created using results drawn by atmosphere simulation program.  Max Planck Research Institude (Society), in collaboration with the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, used the data regarding the emission of major pollutants to suggest the outlook of the world air pollution.  Korea was recorded as a nation with one of the worst air condition (2010 as a standard).  Northeast Asian region (which includes Korea and China), along with northern region of india were recognized as showing the worst air pollution level through industrial activities.  The research predicts that the two regions above and the middle east will face dramatic decline of air quality in the near future?

Though Korea seriously is environmentally ill as you can see, this doesn't mean that our effort toward environmental conservation and restoration is much less than the pollution level of the nation.  There actually was one recent event that clearly proves this :

Recently, there has been an announcement of the rankings for the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) among 132 nations around the world.  EPI is an all-items index that quantifies nations' efforts and accomplishments regarding their environmental policies and allows the comparison of efforts between the involved nations.  The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy, in collaboration with The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) of Columbia University announces the result every two-year.

For this year, along with their usual all-items index, they also announced the Trend EPI, the rankings formed after the measurement of the degree of environmental enhancement during the recent ten years.  Korean ranking on the all times-index has gone up from the previous 94th to 43th, an amazing increase.  For the trend evaluation, Korea was ranked the 13th, positive grading on Korea's efforts on environmental restoration.

Positive results on many indexes such as SO2 emission per capita, regulation on agricultural chemicals, accessibility to drinkable water and cleanliness of water were suggested as keys to Korea's progress in environment.  However, the problem is that there also are areas with low ranks including agricultural subsidies, renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission per capita.
