The ongoing climate negotiations are actively considering REDD as a means of mitigating global climate change by preserving and sequestering carbon in forests. REDD is primarily about reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions as an element of a comprehensive approach mandated by the Bali action plan. As CDM failed to reduce emissions from deforestation in non industrialized countries, there is a strong move to find ways to reduce CO2 emissions from terrestrial ecosystems by reducing the deforestation rates. Under a policy called "Reduce emissions from deforestation" (RED).
Thus, to know the detail about REDD and its global scenarios and carbon analysis of the forest, Hariyo Baan (Green Forest) program of WWF, Nepal supported by USAID conducted 4 days training program on our institute. The training was scheduled with 1 day theory, 1 day familiarization with the instruments, one day plot work and the final day calculation. I'm glad to inform that I was the coordinator of the program selected by WWF, Nepal. The total participants were 37 where 32 were students of our institute selected by me and remaining 5 were CARE Nepal employees. The whole program was made complete by two resource person of WWF, Ugan Manandhar program manager of WWF, Nepal and Maya from WWF Finland. We learnt REDD metrologies' including its international negotiation processes that is happening in global scenario. As the coordinator I made the entire schedule balanced and the participants were very happy for my management. Thanks WWF and USAID for providing such life changing opportunity. I hope the cooperation between us will be fruitful. Further I hope continuous support for the student of Institute of Forestry (IOF) by these organizations.
