Three for Trees |
---|
This article is part of a series highlighting commendable small scale initiatives, efforts and activities started by youth from all over the Asia-Pacific Region. I hope this serves as motivation for them to keep us with their work and inspiration for us all to start our own projects and start acting.
Here is a very simple yet highly effective project from the youth of Malang, Indonesia : Our project is planting trees in order to solve an environment issue, flood and also keep our water resource. Building partnership with Government of Malang and Batu, Nadya Women Centre, and school from elementary to junior high level. Socializing the program to the students and persuade them to plant the trees together in each school. It has been done for 3 years, to remind the people for planting trees. This Program is about rebuilding some green areas as the city protectors from flood and keep water resource, which has been a terrible issue for years. We propose to plant three trees as the action of overcoming the disaster. By planting trees, there will be more spaces available to absorb the water during the rain. We plant the trees in three places, house, school, and in the park. we choose the kinds of trees which can produce edible fruit, such as mango. The program has been running for approximately 3 years. This program is quite simple and easy to do. This project aims to raise awareness of the importance of trees for our lives. We planted large trees that have fruit in order to provide many benefit. With planting in these three place, function of the tree can be maximized, because for student and people in Indonesia, garden, house, and school is never quite place to visited. Trees which we planted include mango, rose apple, orange, and apple. These tree can be produce fruits and can filter the air in the garden, house, and school. 3 for trees is a simple project that could a large impact for environment and surrounding society.
