Do you know forest and poverty? As you don?t know, here I?ll tell you what forest is. Forest is a small compartment containing trees and animals, but it is not only them but also there are tangible and intangible materials. Tangible material is a concrete goods that it can be utilized for human development, whereas intangible material is abstract things giving great benefit in our life. Meanwhile, according to FAO, FAO defines forest as canopy cover of 10 %, minimum tree height in situ of 5 meters, minimum area of 0.5 hectares, and agriculture is not the dominant land use.
Forest plays important role to mitigate and alleviate poverty by providing tangible and intangible goods to citizen and community living around of forest. Previously, what is the definition of poverty alleviation? and what is the positive correlation between forest and poverty? The term of poverty alleviation is the function of forests to help lift the household out of poverty by functioning as savings, investment, accumulation, assest building, and the lasting increases in income and wellbeing (FAO, 2007)
Poverty alleviation contains thee definitions which are poverty elimination, poverty avoidance, poverty avoidance, and poverty mitigation (Sunderlin, 2004). Well, It is so complicated as I want to descripe them one by one. But, it is my compulsory to tell you because I am forester. Poverty elimination has significant correlation with forest where forests provide permanent exit from poverty via savings, investment, accumulation, and assest building. Another definition of poverty alleviation are poverty avoidance and poverty mitigation where they have alike. It means they have the similar roles where forests are the source of subsistence, seasonal gap filler, and safety net in emergencies.
I still remain some rhetorical question, ¡°Whither the forest in your country?, Who will protect forests in your country?, and How to save it to be sustainable forest?¡± as you are the greeners, let?s answer it!
That?s all are the forest function in alleviating poverty. There are many benefits of forests in our life I cant tell it one by one in detail. As you are interested in this case kindly give some comments below!....

You made a good point Achmad,
it's not that long time ago that people understood the importance of forest.
In Korea, there is the Ministry of Forest to protect our forest.
    How about in Indonesia?
