What US government does to promote greener society

There are many ways to protect our environment as an individual, as a group or organization, as a country and as in a whole world. However the methods can vary depending on the segment of society. Today the governments and leaders of the world need to be more committed to preserving the Earth and environment for future generations. By looking at the example of US government, other countries can learn how a government is capable of and responsible for making our communities greener and more environmentally friendly.

The US government has implemented many policies and regulations in order promote green technologies and lifestyles. The first most noticeable one is tax breaks on environmentally friendly goods. For example, homeowners can claim a 30% credit for installing energy efficient equipment such as qualified solar water heaters, small wind energy production or geothermal heat pumps. Also individuals who purchase gas-electric hybrid cars or electric vehicles can claim 2,500 dollars in tax incentive. Not only can individuals receive tax credits, small and large businesses can also benefit from government programs. In case of service stations, they can claim 50% tax credit for installing alternative fuel pumps such as electricity, natural gas and hydrogen refueling pumps. Additionally, businesses can claim a 30% tax credit for qualified small wind energy property investments. These actions are the means of government to encourage citizens and businesses to adopt more energy efficient products into their homes and workplaces that contributes to the development of a greener society.

The benefits of incentivizing the adoption of energy efficient products and renewable energy sources affect citizens, business and federal government.  Citizens and businesses are able to save on taxes and energy bills, while the federal government has to deal with reduced demand for energy.
