Let us enjoy Holiday in eco-friendly way - Solutions are available |

We, the members of Jharkhand Children's Green club had taken initiative during 2011 to celebrate our birthday parties in Eco friendly way. During participation in Monthly Photo essay contest of Dec?12 of Tunza Eco Generation contest , once again we had discussed the issue and listed below solutions to follow them.
1. Use bicycles for transportation in place Car . 2. Decide a suitable venue of the party to suit minimum travel to attend the party by guests. 3. Invite verbally /email/SMS to avoid sending Cards . 4. Decorate with Rangoli ( colourful decoration ) and energy efficient appliances lighting. 5. Offer plants / Seeds as gift in place of synthetic gifts. 6. Organise cultural-programs or games by ourselves to avoid DISCO / High power music system. 7. Use local vegetable as food, non-vegetarian food to be avoided. 8. To use fruits / salad to avoid cooking. 9. Use solar cooker and pressure-cooker to prepare food. 10. During picnic dry leafs and branches of trees can be used in forest. 11. Use plates made of leafs and glasses made of mud to avoid plastic plates bowls / glasses. 12. Use direct tape-water in place of packed in water-bottles,. 13. Use paper / cloth bags in place of plastic-bags during bringing different items and offering gifts. 14. Avoid cup ice-cream to avoid use plastic cup , better to bring bar ice cream . 15. Collect waste in separate bins to recycle and use for making compost. Like these many such points / ideas can be listed. Implanting many such ideas may not be possible by many of us. We had tried to follow most of them in our parties, mainly during birthday party we tried to follow them. These ideas are not new. Many such green ideas are there and known to all of us. Need to implement them in our practical life. So The solutions are available to make our nature greener, Need to implement them by each of us to make Earth gainer. |

Small card ( paper made ) for date and venue is required to offer during Invitation. So may be considered under Eco-friendly.

Your tips are really helpful. I try not to use plastic in my daily life but sometimes disposable folks and knives are so tempting when I am in outdoors. -.-

Kimlang Choeu - yes an many occasions , tape water or natural source of water may not be available , 3. We still need bottle water as we can carrier it easily. But plastic bottle can be avoided and use by glass / metallic bottle.
We are happy to get your ideas.

your 2nd.point - Invitation card is still necessary: First, it remind the participant. Second, it shows more respect and polite. We just make invitation card from paper not plastic.
This depends on nature of the occasion. For party in Holiday better to avoid to supply Card. But for marriage party card can be used as small and Green as possible.

I have some ideas related to this:

2. Invitation card is still necessary: First, it remind the participant. Second, it shows more respect and polite. We just make invitation card from paper not plastic.
3. We still need bottle water as we can carrier it easily.

The Rating in Eco Friendliness or REF is being measured by us in our parties . The basic rating is 50.
In case of use of non Eco-friendly items points will be deducted and use of Eco-friendly items points will be added. Details will be published soon.

Thank you Unmesh and Christy, - Yes, we agree with both of you. Waist management is the biggest problem . We like to do what is convent, but not what is required. That's why put the bottom most photograph.

@Unmesh You are right. I agree with you. People are aware of 3R's importance but few are implementing. I wish people to know that once they plant a tree, they will feel happy and very fulfilled.

Rajashree : The biggest issue is everybody seem to know why recucling/reduce etc is required, but the little effort to make it happen - that is considered by most people as "unnecessary"/"why to spend time" kind of approach...it takes lot of time to convince the benefits which are not easily visible to people...anyhow we all need to try, try try...

Last one year , we were trying to change our mind set to have our party Eco-friendly.
After attending party we comments on 50 REF ( means got 50 Rating in Eco Friendliness ) out of 100 REF. In our next report we may disclose our system to certify party Eco-Friendly measurement.
