Hi Greeners, apparently the value of peace can be taught in agriculture-based university. Is it weird? It is not unusual and very exciting to be applied. It occurs in students of Q.08.2 of TPB-IPB studying General Sociology. General sociology is a social science that discusses a multidimensional social reality, especially the discussion of the social interactions. If it was associated with the embodiment of peace, this course has taught six of the eight action areas of the UNESCO of culture peace statements "in the minds of people", namely: 1. Fostering a culture of peace through education 2. Promoting sustainable economic and social development 3. Promoting respect for all human rights 4. Fostering democratic participation 5. Advancing understanding, tolerance and solidarity 6. Supporting participatory communication and the free flow of information Six action areas of peace culture have been introduced by two groups of Q.08.2 class in TPB-IPB during practicing of General Sociology subject. In fact, they introduced one of the UNESCO recommendations of the International Congress on Peace in the minds of men held in Côte d'Ivoire on peace which is to ?help construct a new vision of peace by developing a peace culture based on the universal values of respect for life, liberty, justice, solidarity, tolerance, human rights and equality between men and women ". The students of Q.08.2 are the leaders of Indonesia who will be a bridge to other youth for teaching and exchanging knowledge about the meaning of peace are applied in social interaction. Widuri Wulansari as the leader of 7th group said that ?the practice of General Sociology teaches us to analize every social problem of different point of view and it makes us more critical in thinking. Thus, we are able to appreciate every differences and able to understand the essence of struggle to live as well as we are able to act in accordance with what we ought to do. All of that certainly bring us to the world of peace?. Apparently in that class of it's own, there are various different views and cultures because they come from the different provinces in Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke. Therefore, according to Widuri, mutual understanding should be reached to the world of peace. General Sociology taught basically understanding of the relationship between cultural diversity and community. At least this is a major key to bring harmony being part of peace. It is also emphasized by Mayang Dewi as the leader of 1st group stating that ?General Sociology builds young people to be social human beings loving peace. According to the vision of UNESCO, we had implemented how to create a respectful feelings towards different culture and places of them. Finally, by that course, we can achieve respecful feelings?. Mayang gave an overview of achievements respectful feeling through sociology that will facilitate the building of peace. From the above case, it can be concluded that in the world of education, building peace can be realized through sustainable teaching to younger generation. Through the General Sociology course, realizing culture of peace will be easily disseminated in the ranks of student or intellectuals. In social science teaching, teachers, lecturers and other educators ought not only allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitude but also allows them to execute values to shape a sustainable future. These efforts also need to be built continuously to next generation, where efforts towards sustainability in any field are built on processes for communicating, learning, and sharing knowledge, engaging people in their multiple roles as individuals, and as members of communities and organizations.
