Ethanol Powered Cars |
---|
Dear Eco generation friends,
Sorry i haven't posted for long, was busy with school final examinations. Anyways, i am back! Today's topic is Ethanol Powered cars Ethanol Powered cars are being used in Brazil. How do they work? Brazil has large plantation of sugarcane. Ethanol is then fermented and one of the products of fermentation is ethanol. It is then distilled and used as fuel for cars. This sustainable to Brazil's economy due to large sugarcane output. Advantages -No fossil fuels being exploited -Produces lower carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide -Cheaper -Widely available and easy to use -Creates job in agriculture sector -More energy is produced when combusted Disadvantages -Land is being cleared to grow sugarcane for fuel and as a result animals and people are forced out of their habitats. -Consumers have to fill their cars more often

yes you are right. Well there is the development of algae powered cars! This can help clean up lakes infested by algae and at the same time make use of them!

It is true that those ethanol powered cars can be a bit of problem... whether to grow sugarcanes for the environment or other crops for people?
Still, the idea of a car that doesn't use fossil fuel is fascinating. It'd be great if they made some compromise and grew crops both for FUEL AND FOOD :D

Yes i agree christy. There have been cases where land is just simply cleared to grow sugarcane for these cars and there's no land left to grow food for the people of the country and this is contributing to starvation!

Good job Naylee and welcome back :D
We really need to find a way to solve its disadvantages because they are closely linked to the world's poverty problems(especially food).

Nice report...I believe this the same problem of extracting bio-fuel from corn cultivation in USA

I would like to drive such a car thus reducing pressure in use of exhaustible fossil fuels.....
