Coastal ecosystems are highly productive containing high biological diversity, rich fishery resources and significant seabed minerals. Coasts also support a diverse array of related industries (e.g. fisheries and aquaculture, tourism, shipping, oil and gas industries), which provide enormous economic productivity. Developmental pressure on the coastal area continues as a result of social and economic driving forces such as urban expansion, retirement, second homes and the tourism industry (EPA, 2000).

Jakarta Bay, as one of the coastal ecosystem, the region is undergoing an unfortunate situation and concern (apprehension). The region is in pressure, which faces the threat of damage to ecosystem degradation, which in turn will affect the functional viability of Jakarta Bay coastal ecosystems (BPLHD Jakarta).

One of the reason is the low quality of human resources and public awareness about eco-friendly lifestyles and the role of ecosystems. This is due to general environmental education and specifically coastal ecosystems has not been introduced neither through formal nor informal. Based on monograph data from the Cilincing Village 2010, approximately 54, 23% of the region's population has education at the primary and junior high school, and only 12.92% which is a college graduation .

To answer these problems, Teens Go Green Community collaborated with Indonesian Coral Reef Foundation (TERANGI) and Department of Marine and Agriculture of DKI Jakarta Province implemented education and training programs in the villages of fishermen, Cilincing, Jakarta. The target  of education and training programs are  children in the villages of fishermen Cilincing. The purpose of the program are to increase public awareness and knowledge of the importance of the Jakarta Bay coastal ecosystem management and eco-friendly lifestyle.

Training and mentoring activities conducted using participatory methods such as presentations, discussions, games, and practical activities, as well as analysis and creativity of students. In addition, there are also problems, obstacles, and barriers encountered during the implementation of the programs. From all that processes can be gained  lesson learned, wise steps, and recommendation to develop education and training programs.

This year, the project will run again continue the previous step and based on our lesson learn and recommendation before. (Reported by Bambang Sutrisno)
