It's Dead Forever Now !

by | 07-04-2013 22:58 recommendations 0

And here I present this report with a very heavy heart !
.
It was an exciting morning. I was told we're gonna go to visit Badhkal Lake in Haryana that is a beautiful natural lake. I personally love lakes and have visited a number of them. They give that soothing effect and you find everything around them elated. The cool breeze revitalizes the soul and moreover, you find all the fun stuff to be done there! Boating could be an immense pleasure. We find horses and camels to ride, beautiful location for pictures.
Amazing Stuff Altogether at One Place.
.
We were foretold that the lake wasn't the same. Environment isn't the same at most of the places, we see the alterations everywhere. I was sad that boating won't be possible in the reduced amount of water but all the other stuff could be fun! We thought that harsh summers had dried the lake a bit but reality was far more worse!
.

What I saw was, in no way, a lake and the condition of it suggested that it never would have been a lake. "It's dead! It's dry! Was it a lake or a pond, Dad? What happened? I guess it was some pond. Lakes don't get this much dried" I asked my dad who himself was surprised at the view.
.
We were told that the Lake which now was a parch thirsty ground, dried permanently. Daddy told me how it appeared almost a decade ago. I just couldn't believe. Drying up of ponds or some small lake is fine and acceptable but how could such a large lake dry up.
.
We inquired the local people. They explained this all happened due to the Soil Mafias who illegally dug the earth near the lake and that area became lower than the depth of lake. The water seeped into the ground and flowed outwards and most of it just evaporated. The lake disappeared forever.
.
Only if I could make you see the pain in their eyes when they told us how this changed their lives. The once well flourishing businesses went dumb and a busy tourist spot turned into a barren piece of land!
.
"What a shame!"

This is a big loss. We can clearly see what we have done and are doing. It's time things need to be changed and it's time we change. Actions must be taken and that too quickly. We cannot have more loses like this one. The carelessness of the government is clearly visible. Such a thing must never be repeated ever! This natural lake is gone but we cannot let any other disappear!

Unmesh: These soil mafias dig up the earth for soil and rocks illegally and sell them for monetary profit. No environmental or social norms are cared about! This is a serious problem in many parts of the country.
