Each year more activities are being organized to commemorate Mother Earth Day. This time, we will try to focus on three big public activities. The Mother Earth Day celebration in La Paz started with a public event in San Francisco square, which is one of the main squares of the city. Particularly this event was organized by the local government of La Paz and included an opening, and then a street theatrical presentation of ?Lion King? took place, which was a really amazing spectacle. After that a ceremony of offer and acknowledgment to the Mother Earth started and it was very interesting to see how indigenous peoples celebrate those ceremonies.

Then a fair located in the site started with many activities. Some organizations spread information about health and nutrition, an organization exposed information about Chinese traditional medicines, in a space a poetry show about Mother Earth was held, a little workshop about recycling materials took place, and many others funny educative activities were organized with the participation of some NGOs, environmental groups and other institutions.

The other two big public activities to commemorate the Mother Earth Day focused on movies. Movies are very interesting instruments that can help us not only to spread great information, but also they can change minds, they can change our perspective of certain things and raise awareness about important issues. The first one was the Mother Earth International Film Festival organized by the local government of La Paz with the collaboration of a national NGO. The festival started on April 22nd and finished on April 26th. Some of the movies/documental that were shown during it are ?The Thrive? (from the U.S.A.), ?La Sed del Mundo? (France), ?La Película de la Reina? (Brasil/Bolivia), ?A Day on Earth? (U.S.A.) and ?Home? (France). All of them were full of useful, key information and, more important, strong messages.
